Windows 11 [new setup]
Server Version: 1.41.4.9463
I’m aiming to migrate my entire Plex Media Server from my NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (using external EasyStore HDD storage) to a new Windows 11 PC build that I put together. My ulimate goal with this is to retain all libraries, metadata, custom posters, user watch history, media-added dates, etc.
Before doing so, I’m wondering if anyone else was able to successfully do this and if it’s truely as easy as just copying/backing-up the entire database directory on the Shield TV Pro… EasyStore\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server
and simply pasting it into the equivelent location on the Windows 11 PC… C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
Can anyone confirm if this will indeed retain everything?
I can confirm this went off without a hitch… and I’m pleasantly shocked.
The only thing I did differently from Plex’s migration guide was that I left all of the existing files be within the Plex Media Server folder on the Windows PC and then copied the contents of the same folder from the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro and pasted to the Windows PC. In other words: I only overwrote the files that were duplicatative in the folder on the Windows PC.
Not to necro this post, but I am also planning on switching my server from a Shield to W11(& also already had the server files on an external drive on the Shield) and am happy to hear that it is possible (there’s almost no documentation or even personal accounts of this specific direction, online). I just to be sure, @tmanbez , there was no issue with the " Copy Additional Server Settings From the Source System" step? (Where, for Windows-to-Windows, you’d export & import registry settings) At least in terms of the library content/metadata/collections/etc (if it just involves things in the settings, I don’t care as much about that).
Also, just for comparison - did you have to move your actual library content? (at least in terms of file-path. I currently have external drives on a USB hub attached to the Shield, but will be moving the hub into the PC, and thus the paths will change. I briefly read on another thread that this could be an issue).
