Gapless playback available?

I play a lot of orchestral music (CDs ripped to uncompressed FLACs). Is it possible to set PLEX so that these 1 second gaps between tracks are not audible? I listen almost entirely through my PLEX Players on my TVs (mostly Roku), and often through my PLEX Media Server on my dedicated PC. Sometimes on my iPad. Never on my cell phone.

No, it’s a limitation of the Roku app. It uses Roku’s built in player, and they don’t have a gapless feature.

Thank you for the heads up on Roku devices and my Roku TV. I have a Sony 4K TV on which I am using PLEX on an external Roku Ultra rather than the Sony PLEX Player. I thinkmthis is because the Sony PLEX Player seems not tomfunction well. I will give the Sony PP another chance.

However, I also experience this when I listen to orchestral tracks (FLACs) directly on my media streamer PC. It is unclear to me, should I be using the PLEX Media App or the PLEX Player for this Windows PC. I am hearing the gaps on the PLEX Media app.

Please advise.

I’m not sure which app you are referring to. We don’t call them the Plex Media or Plex Player app. If you are on Windows, there are

  • Plex Web which is in a browser
  • Plex for Windows which is a stand alone app that looks like Plex Web
  • Plex HTPC is the newest stand alone app and has a different UI
  • Plex Media Player is the old stand alone app that has both the Web UI and a different one and can be toggled between the 2 (this app is no longer updated)

Web can’t do gapless, but I’m not sure if gapless is supported on Plex for Windows or HTPC. I’ll have to double check.

I have two PLEX apps on my Media Streamer PC. The first is PLEX Web, which I think used to be referred to as the PLEX Media App. It is version 4.66.1.

The second is PLEX for Windows, which appears to be a PLEX player app. It is version 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78.

Should I always use the PLEX for Windows app when I want to play my PLEX content on my Media Streamer PC? Or does it not make any difference?

I am not clear on what PLEX HTPC is and whether I should be using it. Is it better? Would I need to uninstall the PLEX for Windows app, or just install PLEX HTPC over it?

Please advise. Thank you for your help.

Plex Web is “Plex Web”. It’s never been referred to as “Plex Media App”, at least not by Plex.

Plex for Windows is “Plex for Windows”. Also never been called “Plex player app”.

Plex Web, since it runs in a web browser, is very limited in it’s capabilities. It’s great in a pinch or to test something. Plex for Windows is much better.

Plex HTPC is a separate standalone app and designed for use from a distance such as with a remote control. You can install this separately from Plex for Windows. Plex Web and Plex for Windows are better with a keyboard and mouse.

Is their some better interface that I should use instead of Roku? I use Roku even on my Sony 4K TV, if only because it seems to be better, and I am more familiar with it.

What do you suggest?
