Gapless Playback In Plex

thank you. the reason I need a plex player in linux is that my box is a headless server, just using the player to fling at. I haven’t tried if Clementine supports this, but I’d give it a go sometime.
Even if there would be a pure CLI player I’d be happy… would save me to start X

nothing yet?

Wanting a CLI music player for Linux? Take a look at cmus.

https://cmus.github.io/

thank you @Noah0504 . I’ll give it a go. I managed to get plex-shim working but it is using mpv as default player and that does not appear to be gapless. But… plex-shim should be ablke to use an external player, so let see

mpv should be able to handle gapless playback. And cmus is pretty featured, and now I see it may not have been what you were looking for! If you need something to simply play audio from the command line, you should have plenty of options!

mmh. if mpv really can support gapless, then I need ot figure out why it does not seem to do it at my end…

From what I’ve experienced, and I didn’t read this whole thread sorry, but Plex on my Android TV is gapless. Just throwing this out there. Hope this helps someone.

Just tested on a windows box and even in windows gapless playback is not working. I’m pretty sure I read it is supposed to work there…
on my android phone however is fine…

You are using the Plex App and not this Webbrowser like client (whatever it is called)? It only works with the Plex App (so this Win Amp clone). On Android it also works as long it is a “standard” Android like on my Samsung phone. However it doesnt work on my Samsung TV as the Android OS there seems to be more customized.

Yes the plex app for Windows.

… mh it works for me (within albums → checked with Pink Floyd - The Wall). There is no setting for it imho so it should work out of the box. There is only a setting for Sweet Fades which is something different and as far as I remember is anyway switched of if you listen to an album. Maybe something with the sound driver? I am using a pretty standard High End Dell Laptop.

I know it’s weird… I tried a few different windows boxes, but every time not working. Same with cds I ripped a while ago (mediamonkey), newly ripped ones (dbpoweramp) and digital purchases from bandcamp…

Lifetime Pass. Still frustrated by lack of gapless on Windows client and on Roku.

I have heard a few reasons, but very little in the way of help or suggestions. Plex shoukd understand that they are actually hurting the users’ experience with their own content by not devoting energy to a solution. Imagine a one second gap between every chapter on a DVD?

Please respond! And please help fix this!!

possible solution the cue sheet
but here the basic features are the last to be implemented

what would that entail?
Needing to have a CUE sheet for each disk?

Obvious … music file with merged tracks coupled by .cue file.
Of course, those who have been using this system for years (like me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: ) would have an advantage, but the gapless issue would certainly be overcome

Why cue files solution is not implemented by Plex to solve the gapless issue?

And you ask me?

There is a request about it for more than 10 years

and the link to vote

BTT, why no gapless playback in the Plex media player?
So irritating when the songs don’t flow like they do on the CD/record/tape/itunes etc…

Please fix for ****sake how hard is it?

It’s hard to imagine that gapless playback isn’t a given. Please fix on Windows clients!
