Gapless playback using cue file + one big audio file, workaround

Hi guy’s,

Just wanted to share my findings using large FLAC files with a CUE file.

As you all know, the audio library will not support one single big audio file with a CUE file. It will not display separate tracks and info.

The workaround that i found after many trial and error is converting the audio file to WAV (DBPowerAmp), and splitting the file using ExactAudioCopy’s tool to split into several tracks. (EAC → extra: split WAV with CUE file)

(I’ve tried alle the splitters, cue file splitter, Medieval CUE splitter, windows store cue splitter, … with pre-gap, without pre-gap, … no true gapless playback!)

Then match the files using MusicBrainz Picard to edit and correct the metadata.

Only in this way i encounter ‘true’ gapless playback of mixed CD’s, or at least so small i barely notice it. (This applies to PlexAmp only! Plex does not support gapless playback.)

I still hope for CUE file support in Plex… Maybe one day.

I hope my workaround helps everybody that also gets frustrated by this.
Or if someone has a better way, i’d like to hear about it!

Thank you

You can do the same with Foobar2000, directly to flac.

For mac users. XLD does this as well and allows you to keep it as FLAC.

Hi!

Thank you for your feedback!

I tried FB2K but i got mixed results. Still a hiccup during playback every track. Maybe i could be doing something wrong, i’ll take another look at it.

EAC is just hitting the split button, without having to mess with any setting. Granted, you need a wave file to start.

If only Plex would integrate cue file support…

Don’t think you are the first to ask, look at the date of the first post:

Oh i know…
I upvoted this years ago!
