Gemini Lake HDR Transcode Issue

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.41.3.9314-a0bfb8370-x86_64_DSM72
Player Version#: Plex Web

CPU is Intel J4125 (Gemini Lake) on a DS920+. I have HW transcoding enabled and when I transcode from HDR content I get this color banding with vertical lines, in particular around red in the screenshot, regardless of the client.

Searching online for similar symptoms I can see it using the i965 driver in the logs. The iHD driver has a link in the Cache/va-dri-linux-x86_64/ folder but the link target doesn’t exist. In any case I’m not sure how I’d change it if it did exist.

I’m on the latest Plex server version (non-Beta) but this has been an issue since I started using HDR content a few months ago.

You can remove the VaapiDriver="i965" from preferences.xml
It’s no longer needed with all the transcoder updates which have occurred.

Here’s from my J4125 (also a DS920+)

There are titles where you will have to watch out for the DoVi content.
This is the GeminiLake CPU issue.

Consider, the same movie as 2160 HEVC HDR DoVi

It doesn’t handle high bitrate HDR well.

I don’t have that setting in my Preferences.xml and this is DoVi content (as shown in my screenshot). I think this will be addressed by this (which I forgot I replied to before posting this). Can you confirm?

I can confirm we’re working on that last phase of the upgrade.

There’s one critical piece of development remaining.
(I could tell you what it is but then I’d have to :gun: you. LOL)

I’m helping with the “Mark-2 eyeball” work and then we’re going to do a full up test build with it. So far, it does look good.
