I live out in the country with a 1 Mbps DSL Internet connection. It’s unbearable.
I’m about to order unlimited data service from Netbuddy. It will come with a wireless hotspot.
Currently Plex is running on my Win 10 desktop with a wired connection to my ATT router. I just built it, it’s a nice fast machine. But I foolishly assumed that all modern motherboards had WiFi and I was wrong. Also, my main Plex client is the XBox One S in the family room.
The hotspot that’s coming has no Ethernet port, it’s 100% wireless. This means I’ll be using a USB wireless adapter on the PC, and everything in the home will now be connected wirelessly to the hotspot.
The hotspot device is: Netgear Unite Explore 815S
Should this work without issue? Will the hotspot device act as a router so the XBox can still reach the PC?
That’s a horrible limitation on this device.
Depending on the size of media files you have, and the layout of your apartment you might be able to go completely wireless.
But if you go above SD quality for videos, you will run into issues with a high probability.
Check if you can continue to use your current router and put it into a ‘client mode’. That way it can dial into this LTE hotspot and distribute the internet access to your existing home network.
Then I’d advise you to run network wires to both your Plex server and your big screen client(s).
Servers should never ever be wireless! Everything else can be but servers no.
Check with your new provider and see if they offer a modem with a wires option.
For me it is nearly inconceivable that any provider would force totally wireless on anyone.

If there is a way some Internet Service Providers can Provide Pain and Suffering - they will… Customer complaints, most of the time, are handled adequately… most of the time, but some providers are like Plex in that they’re sure they’ve got it all figured out, for everybody, all the time.
CrapCast comes immediately to mind…
Let’s hope the OP’s provider isn’t like CrapCast…

I have a Magnum Wi-Fi Network here in the house (in the woods - near nothing or nobody). Most of my Plex Client Devices run fine on Wi-Fi 5G. I would never even consider a server on Wi-Fi… not even mine.
