Been having so many issues with Plex recently for some weird reason. When I saw Frost with mother, it studdered like 60% in the movie. Justice League Dark had moments where it skipped frames. And now my sister can’t watch Birds of Prey from another country, despite syncing it!! There are so many logs I could throw I don’t even know where to start. The server is on my PC. And while it’s not the fastest, it’s not being taxed for work. So, is it an issue with my formats? Do I mass re-encode my whole library?
Honest to say, I loved Plex back in the days. It was purely for your content, and it worked! Now, like I honestly don’t enjoy the whole new reädesigned GUI and layout. I think there are just too many bells and whistles. Can someone help me figure out why my server seem to struggle so with streaming movies when it has worked fine for 5+ years or whatever?
The transcoder is having trouble with your files. Plex Media Server.log has 22,000+ transcoder error entries.
May 24, 2020 20:58:52.735 [12300] ERROR - [Transcoder] Error while decoding stream #0:0: Invalid data found when processing input
May 24, 2020 20:58:52.736 [8048] ERROR - [Transcoder] [h264 @ 08d3cd40] Invalid NAL unit size (0 > 15120).
May 24, 2020 20:58:52.736 [12300] ERROR - [Transcoder] [h264 @ 08d3cd40] Error splitting the input into NAL units.
Searching for “Invalid NAL unit size” in the forum returns several hits, many of which mention corrupt media.
Does the movie play OK with other media players - VLC, etc?
What happens if you direct play the movie instead of transcode? Play it with Plex for Windows instead of Chrome. Chrome cannot direct play AC3 audio.
FYI 1, Turn off Verbose logging. It adds a lot of spurious information and causes the logs to wrap very quickly. See Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server for details.
FYI 2, You can drag the ZIP file directly into the compose window to attach to the thread. No need to use Dropbox.
As he said use Plex for Windows program/app. then it shouldnt transcode to burn in the subtitles like chrome does. and googling that NAL error seems to show it means corrupt data in the video
This helped me out playing it locally! All my files work excellently in VLC. As in matter of fact, when they don’t run in Plex, I’m just sighing and reverts to VLC who never seems to fail me.
Booth versions of the Plex for Windows worked at least on the Birds of Prey that I’m focusing this post on.
Answer to FYI1; I honest to goodness thought I turned that off because I was trying to do some troubleshooting following guides from Plex, my bad!
Answer to FYI2; Thanks. I generally prefer to revert down to things that work. Like pressing a button labelled “upload”. And I’m so familiar with Dropbox for me at least it’s honestly almost just as easy as otherwise. But cheers for the tip!
Just to sum it, we’ve likely gotten a big step helping my derpy self find Plex for Windows. Especially as it appears to just take me straight to my files as the old GUI did! However, why can’t I play them over the web? And we haven’t come to a solution for my sister, as she got the same type of error as I do in Webb interface trying booth her Chromecast and iPhone.
