Genre Filters

Currently, when using the web player, I can click on a movie, and it will tell me that it’s “Action” or “adventure” and what not.

I can click on these words and see other movies of the same genre.

I think it would be rather useful to be able to select these options from the the main library page instead of having to click on a movie first.

Perhaps a drop down box offering the genres available in the library? Or even allowing for user defined tags.

An example of why I would want this. I have multiple libraries, including one for SciFi movies, one for Fantasy movies, and one for Horror movies. Where does Alien go? Horror or SciFi? What about Masters of the Universe? Is it Fantasy, or SciFi?

I’ve got another one library just for Comicbook movies. Another for COmedies. But so many movies are cross genre, that they could be in multiple libraries. I’d like to just put them in one library, and then have an easy option to just sort them by genre.

Plex has both of those capabilities. In your Movies library, click on the New Filter button. This gives you a list of filtering options, including Genre.

When you edit your movie in Plex, click the Sharing item on the left. This has a Labels field, which you can use to create user-defined tags.

That takes even more clicks to get to than just clicking on a movie and clicking the link there.

Perhaps an option to pin specific filters to the sidebar.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (custom filters), duplicate (sub-sections / smart libraries, genre tab)
