Genre translations

How are genres handled in different languages with new Plex Movie agent?

In my case it’s in Swedish.

Some genres seems to be translated and some are not.

I have recently rescanned and updated library complete when I switched to new agent.

For example Horror genre (Skräck in Swedish).

63 movies in my collection has the Swedish Skräck genre. One movie has the English Horror genre.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) has English genre in Plex. Tried to update Metadata but does not change.

If I check the movie on tmdb it says Skräck and not Horror.

Are there some way to fix this?

Are the affected movies in mp4/m4v containers?
If so, check for embedded metadata.

Hi there.

No it’s in mkv format.
Not sure if mkv can have embedded tags?

I have also unchecked prefer local metadata in Plex Movie scanner setting.

Not sure how genres are handled for multiple languages.

Are genres read by plex in English and then translated by plex server?
Or are genres added to plex movie database and translated to different languages from there?

Or do they have to be added for each language manually?

They can, but Plex cannot read them.

AFAIK, Plex is using genre translations from TheMovieDB.org if they exist over there.
It is a bit complicated, since this process appears to be manually.

As you can see here the genres are in Swedish. Skräck is present.

And as you can see it’s English in Plex. (Horror)

Resident Evil is the only movie with English genre.

I have 60+ horror movies that have Swedish “Skräck” as genre.

No idea how to fix this. I can’t edit tmdb since it’s correct on there.

When you edit this particular movie, what language is selected for its metadata?

Yes. I know. I’m stupid. That was it! Haha. Didn’t even realize you could set meta data language per movie!

Was set to English instead of library default. No idea why but that did the trick.

Many thanks for your help!
