Which sources does Plex agent use for Genres

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486

Hi there.
Not the first time creating this topic, but maybe now there might be a solution for this.
I have movie libraries in Russian and Hebrew languages. Plex agent is used for both libraries.
Local metadata and assets are turned off.
However after scan is complete I have a mixture of genres in library language and English:

At the same time if I use Plex Movie Scanner with The Movie Database agent i don’t have such issue at all.

So I assuming that Plex Agent uses multiple source for collecting information on movies genres and one of the sources is not properly translated.
If so, is there any possibility to exclude this source?

Many thanks in advance.

Totally agree. I wish they would only use Themoviedb for genres for a clean and standardized look.

It’s the same with album reviews that can flat out show in a language the user can’t even read.

Not sure why they include such things. It looks so messy and in the case of genres, some are listed twice in different wording because of this.

no one can help? that’s so disappointing
such an itty-bitty problem with no solution.
by the way in emby I had similar issue, however their support at least provided workaround by playing with metadata sources, and i found combination when I have perfect order in genres. In plex agent unfortunately I cannot select sources, and that’s a pity.

Please help

Having Ukrainian translation added to Plex, I’ve decided to check whether the issue will remain with new translation and it does.
Same genres are not translated properly.

afaik they from both IMDB and TMDB if using the Plex Movie agent not a single source . I’m not sure why some are not translated. I made a note for our metadata folks but likely will not get an answer til Monday

Thanks. i’m living with it so long, so i definitely can wait til Monday.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi @BigWheel,
Did you by any chance get reply from your metadata teammates?

yeah sorry. It comes from TVDB, IMDB and TMDB. We are not sure why some are not translated. But the metadata team said they would look into what we can do to get them translated.

I also meant to ask if you filter on one of the genres that are in English, can you tell me a movie or two that is in the results of that filter.

@BigWheel thanks for your reply.
You can take any of Harry Potter movies as an example. All of them are Adventure genre which is not translated.
E.g. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is both Action and Adventure:

Guid id=“imdb://tt0330373”/
Guid id=“tmdb://674”/
Guid id=“tvdb://153”/

Hey @BigWheel ,
Was a Harry Potter movie a good example? Did it help to isolate the issue and at least to determine the root cause of it?
thanks.

Hi, The sources we have just don’t have translated Genres. We are looking into translating ourselves or putting them into Transifex

Because IMDb only supports the following languages, no other languages have translations or support adding translations.

  • English
  • French (Canada)
  • French (France)
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Italian
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Spanish (Mexico)
  • Spanish (Spain)

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies.
I’m wondering whether there is any possibility to exclude imdb from metadata parsing for now?
Thanks.
