I migrated to a new firewall, UniFi UCG-Fiber, and am configuring remote access for Plex. I’ve hit a strange issue with the firewall and I need Plex experts to chime in. Even though it’s a UniFi issue, it should help with pinpointing next steps.
Without getting too in depth on the UniFi side, I have geoblocked everything other than Ireland and US from accessing Plex. When this policy is in place, I can no longer access Plex using the actual Plex account, but Plex home users can still access. This applies both locally and remotely - I can remotely access Plex with a Plex home user but not the actual Plex account user / server owner. Same thing locally.
What type of connection issue am I hitting where this is possible? In the past when remote access was misconfigured, I could still login to Plex locally and the Remote Access section would show disconnected. But I could still login and access the server. In this scenario, the Plex account can’t login. If it’s already logged in, all libraries show as disconnected.
I understand there are some IPs in Ireland used for the remote access health probes. I know Plex can be run without any sort of inbound access so the authentication happens outbound. I don’t understand why external policies are impacting the server across the board in this specific way.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
