Any updates on getting this corrected? Having to convert all my MKV files is quite a pain.

Which ?
Need logs to establish if this is the same as one already submitted to the development team
Could be different reasons for a transcoder to fail / crash

See my earlier response to you

My apologies, zip file attached. I updated to today’s update, restarted, and tried a MKV file between 2 and 2:05 pm EST. It crashed the transcoder. Please let me know if you need more info. Thank you!

Exit Code -1073741819 is the normal windows Access Violation process crash 0xC0000005 This is not one of the specific errors that is already with the development team. Each crash of this nature would need to be investigated using media file that gives that failure. I hope you are in a position to provide the extra diagnostics that I would need to take this further. Such failures tend to be specific to media file content.

I need to have the problem replicated and passed to the development team, Will need a file that gives this error

There is additional transcoder diagnostics that can be enabled and if you are comfortable with making a RegEdit, I will give the details here. This may adversely affect transcoding performance - so only enable it just before doing the test outlined below
To enable transcoder additional logging

Using RegEdit (Start / Run / Regedit)
Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
Click on Plex Media Server in left side area
Right click and select NewString Value
Name the new string item TranscoderLogLevel and give it a value of debug
Click OK and exit it RegEdit

Would like to see if a 5-minute produced from the mkv file Cant.Pay.Well.Take.It.Away.S04E24.720p.HDTV.x264-C4TV.mkv does give the same error. If it does then we can use that as the sample to pass to the development team
Use mkvtoolnix to create a 5-minute clip. Add it to a test library and with the additional transcoder logging above and the normal server debug logging and restarting the server. try the clip streaming to the roku. If it fails, collect the logs as before and attach with details on time of failure and make the 5-minute clip available on dropbox or similar service and let me have a link to it

After getting the diagnostics, please delete the TranscoderLogLevel registry key

Please start the test after restarting the server

Thanks for your help

Before I run this (probably be tomorrow morning), I wanted to let you know I’m having same issue with AVI files. Just in case other tests/files were needed. This is on the Roku, Fire TV and Fire TV stick. My Nvidia Shield has no issues playing any of them.

I have the same issue. It seems like my problem is related to downloaded .srt files that I have deleted. I have English as default language and all .srt files were downloaded in English.

I stoped using .srt files and decided to delete all of them. Did a full rescan of the library but when I play a movie it defaults to English srt file and that file does not exist.

How do I update my library to remove srt from subtitle choise?

I followed the steps you asked for and received the same transcoder crash error with the 5 minute clip. I restarted the server at approximately 2:25 pm EST and the video during that same timeframe. Logs attached. 2 questions. 1. Would you like for me to try to replicate on my Fire TV or Fire TV sticks? 2. Maybe it is coincidence, but I can now no longer sync files to my Kindle Fire tablets. They all fail. Thanks!

Just checking in, updated to newest release overnight but still the same issue. MKV won’t play on my Windows desktop/web app, Roku, or Fire TV (stick and box) but will play on Nvidia Shield. I see transcoder crash on the devices and then Shaka error on my Windows desktop web app (in Chrome).

Thank you for the logs which do show the error. I have referred these to the development team

You should be able to get round the problem by going through The Plex Dance steps

The Plex Dance worked. Thank you

@sa2000 did you see my 2nd logs and test clip you asked for? Thanks!

Thanks for the sample. I just tried it on roku 3 and it streamed ok
Could you enable verbose logging so i can see full transcode info and repeat using same clip to the roku and attach the logs.

My tests were using 1.11.0.4633 beta - so i suggest trying this as well

You can try also with the amazon fire tv - I will try that as well but please do the tests with the current beta release 1.11.0.4633

I upgraded to the beta yesterday but that was after I had uploaded the logs. I will get logs for both devices today. Just an FYI, after updating to the beta yesterday I have tried to play 25+ MKV and avi files on each device with no success. Thanks & will update later with logs.

This is very strange because your sample worked fine for me on the 1.11.0.4633 beta with default settings for local network and it played on Roku 3 and also on Amazon Fire TV

No issues with the P Drive ?

If we can’[t reproduce the error it is going to be impossible to establish why the transcoder is crashing

If it is definitely going to crash on launch then I will give you some development diagnostic options to log detailed info into the server log

Insured I was on the latest beta, enable server logging and verbose, and tried the 5 min clip on Roku at 11:15 am EST. Logs attached. Also, did a 2nd log with that file on the Amazon fire tv box a few minutes later. I labeled that log as well. Oddly enough, this time it worked. Previously it and all other MKV and AVI files failed on both devices. Neither MKV nor AVI will play on Plex web app on my desktop.

We were posting at same time. No issues I’m aware of. What would you like for me to check with it?
