Getting Playback Error "Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error"

Player Version#: Two different players - web player through Firefox and Visio Smartcast Player

I’m seeing consistent errors for the last couple of days playing media from my server to local clients. Primarily playing SD media, which is being transcoded up to 720p.

Hey @joshcan I just had the same problem this evening.
My friends and family were complaining about the error in the Web Player and some apps. (Roku and Amazon FireStick work fine)

Here is what I found that fixed the issue.

  1. Found some text files in the folder of the Show I as trying to play. Removed them.
  2. This is what I really think fixed the issue, depending on the scope of your issue, either refresh the metadata on the particular show/file via the Web UI or the entire Library.

My Setup:

VMWare 15.5
CentOS 7 (Installed via the rpm)
4GB RAM
4 Cores

Thanks for the input. I ended up completely removing Plex and reinstalling it, as I had just migrated my install from a different computer. As I thought about it, I realized I’d had weird issues since the migration, so completely uninstalling and reinstalling seemed like the next logical step. So far, the issue has not reappeared on a fresh install of Plex, so hopefully it was just something I had horked during the migration.

I did a brand new install and am getting this issue.

I get playback conversion failed any time the plex scanner is going…
