Glitches last two months, has been bad, please help!

For the past year or two, I have flawlessly enjoyed my Plex server. In my home, my main tv is Apple TV 4K Hardwired 1GBP home ran to my router, all my wireless FireTV devices have worked with no problem, all my family members who have been given user access all over the country have had no issue.

In the last month or two, most of my media glitches. About every three minutes, we will experience a flash of white pixelation, sometimes the picture will freeze and the audio will keep going, then eventually catch up a minute later. It doesn’t matter if it’s MP4, MKV, 720P or 1080P.

I ran a data scrubbing routine on the volume set and I thought I fixed it. I ran the Plex troubleshooter, rebooted the NAS, updated to the lastest software, tried the latest beta, increased the strength of the decoder with no luck. The NAS shows that barely any CPU usage is going on, let a lone a spike.

I would love help and would consider paid support to get this resolved. Thanks!

Would need the apple tv logs if that is where you see issue and probably the server logs as well. right after it happens If you can take a screen/phone picture of what you mean by “a flash of white pixelation” it may help understand what is happening.

Thank you for the quick reply much appreciated. I will work on gathering the sever logs soon based on the link you shared. I will also work to share a video of the glitching happening.

To be clear, this happens on multiple apple tvs, Amazone Fire TVs, local and remote.

Thanks,
D.

I have uploaded two picture files. One where its glitchy and then when it clears up the glitch, I have taken a video of it but its too big to upload. I’ll try to shrink if if need be. This is the first few minutes of The Bad Guys played at 8:45 PM Pacific time. Hope this helps.

I have also attached my server logs.

Thanks,
D

I was assuming when you first made this post that the item was maybe an issue with transcoder but it is direct playing which would explain the low CPU usage.

I was wondering if it is always glitching in same spots or is it really just every 3 mins or so. Is it new files or files you have had for a while

(also please turn off verbose logging)

It doesn’t necessarily glitch in the same spots. Sometimes restarting Plex will clear up the severity for a little bit. It’s been doing it on all new files, but in going back to older files I used to have no problems with, it’s also happening.

Verbose logging turned off

Hey. i was curious if you copied a file to a USB that you insert into Syno if it does same thing. (you should be able to create a new library and add the a folder on USB to the library)

This is going to sound ridiculous, but … try a different HDMI cable.

edit: and a different port on the TV, for giggles

I will hunt one down, try and report back. Thank you.

It would seem like a reasonable thing but the issue persists on multiple devices and platforms. Ipad, laptop, firestick, local and remote.

Oh, well then, indeed!

I misunderstood your initial post and comments. I didn’t understand that it’s affecting multiple devices.

I have a bit of egg on my face, as the file I was testing was bad. Can I mothball this thread for a little bit and see if the issue persists? Thanks for all of your help.

I have the same issue as OP. I can confirm my files are fine (they playback perfectly on PC and Mac) but always glitch through Plex running on my Synology NAS. Just happened only a few months ago. Hopefully someone finds a fix or an update for this.

Also unlike the OP my files will ALWAYS glitch in the same spots, no matter what. It does not seem to be a buffering issue as the same files played fine prior to a few months ago.
