Global Search not returning results from Library - only News & Podcasts

So I noticed that I can “browse” all files in my Library fine, but recently, the Global Search (the search window at the top of the screen) in both the web view and my iOS devices has stopped returning results from my Library. I only see News and Podcast results. In other words, if I want to browse to and play Music from the Eagles, I have to go to Music, show all, scroll to the E’s and choose it. If I want to watch the movie Twilight (don’t laugh…it’s an example, I don’t really have it), I cannot search for Twilight up top…I have to navigate to Movies, Show all, then scroll down to the T’s to find it manually. I’m a Plex Pass member, I should add. This used to work just fine. I’m literally ready to cancel my Plex Pass and begin testing one of the other competing products. This is definitely a deal breaker for me. I have tons of content and if I cannot search for it, the Media Server functionality is nearly useless to me. And don’t even get me started on the fact that Plex won’t accept support requests via their online form, even from their “paying customers”. Anyone else experiencing this?

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

Thanks OttoKerner. I did find issues in the Plex Media Server.log file (attached). I performed the corrupt database repair steps. At present, the Plex Media Server app doesn’t appear willing to re-launch on my Mac. I’m going to attempt a restart and see if that makes a difference. Plex Media Server.log (164.2 KB)

Rebooting my Mac didn’t help. Plex Media Server still doesn’t launch after doing the database repair.

Yes, there are clear indications for database corruption in the log files.

I hope you did stop/quit Plex server before doing the repair?

Have you saved the database file version from before the repair?

I followed all the steps in the database repair instructions.

I’m thinking perhaps I should completely remove Plex and start from scratch. Would that be an appropriate resolution? https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/

Then the repair was probably not successful.
You might have to resort to one of the backup database files.

I recommend to perform the repair procedure on the restored copy as well.

Starting from scratch depends on how many customizations and playback statistics are still slumbering in your current installation.
If you did only a few customizations and are not sharing with anyone, you might probably not be too inconvenienced.

Removal/Reinstall worked. As noted, I’ll need to put a few things back in place, but the search feature is back and it appears my media is indexing properly. I also tested my ability to access my library from an iOS device and that worked as well. Thanks OttoKerner. Quite honestly, you kept me from hitting the “delete my account” button. I was growing weary of searching for a support path before I decided to try the forum!
