GMCA — an open-source, third-party native Plex client for the Nintendo Switch

GMCA

Hi all,

An update to the project I posted here as pleNx: it has become GMCA — Gamepad Media Center Aggregator (v1.0.3). It’s still a native, controller-first client that talks directly to your own Plex Media Server via the standard plex.tv/link PIN flow (Plex Home profiles supported) — that part hasn’t changed. What’s new is that the same app now also speaks Jellyfin, Emby and Stremio, and runs on far more than the Switch.

Runs on: Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, a Raspberry Pi wired to the TV, plus Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and PS4. The layout never changes; the accent colour and the tabs follow the server.

For Plex specifically

  • Sign in with plex.tv/link (4-character code, no password on the console); Plex Home profiles with PIN are supported.
  • Home mirrors your server hubs (Continue Watching first), plus libraries, collections, genres, search, cast & person pages.
  • Plex Watchlist — browse, sort, filter, add/remove from anywhere in the app.
  • Offline downloads in original quality — one tap grabs a full season, with a storage gauge.
  • Music — Artist → Album → Track, a Now Playing screen and a mini-bar that keeps playing in the background.
  • Playback through MPV — direct play + universal transcode (HLS), resume, chapters, external & embedded subtitles, audio track selection.

Already using pleNx? Your logins, settings and downloads migrate automatically on first launch — nothing to reconfigure. The built-in updater picks up GMCA on its own (on desktop/PS4 it prompts and opens the release page for a manual reinstall).

On the Switch and Vita this is homebrew, so it needs a console on custom firmware. GMCA is free, open source, and not affiliated with or endorsed by Plex, Inc. (nor Jellyfin, Emby or Stremio).

Update — pleNx is now GMCA (Gamepad Media Center Aggregator), v1.0.3.

It’s still the same native, controller-first Plex client that talks straight to your own server via plex.tv/link — now it also supports Jellyfin, Emby and Stremio, adds a music player and a connection switcher, and runs on PS Vita, a Raspberry Pi on the TV, desktop and PS4 as well as the Switch. Existing pleNx installs migrate automatically on first launch. I’ve updated the first post with the full details.

Still third-party and not affiliated with Plex, Inc. → https://github.com/thcolin/gamepad-media-center-aggregator/releases/latest
