Holly cow… How is this still broken in 2020??? The sad thing is I had a new unused Shield TV sitting in my closet for a year or two. Finally plugged it in last night and the voice search worked beautifully for Plex shows initially. That is until I made the mistake of updated the OS. Boom… broken this morning. WTH?? I thought I was going crazy until I stumbled across thousands of other people complaining about the same problem. Seriously Plex/Google? Guess it’s going back in the closet…
Okay I just installed Emby for the first time and wow… the Google Assistant search worked like a charm the first time I tried it!?! I have used Plex for 8+ years, but now I am seriously considering tossing it and going over to Emby. Hmm… I wonder if they do discounts on their lifetime memberships?
Son of gun… Emby’s Android App has “Background Video Playback” support!?! For years I have avoided Plex’s android app in lieu of MX Player because Plex wouldn’t support background playback. I like to start a show, close the cover on my cell and put it in my pocket while I do errands. Tried all types of workaround and finally gave up on Plex’s app. I had not clue Emby supported that right out of the box. Wow…

Wow this was started at the end of 2018 and here we are well into 2020. I have been an avid Plex user and have gotten many into it. The fact that this is still not a thing, and no one is saying anything is impressive. Especially since Emby has had this feature for awhile. If Emby works well I will be moving away from Plex.

I really like Plex, it’s a wonderful software but frankly, so much people requesting this feature (+1 by the way) and no explanation, no comments…? It looks this company have a good bunch of developers and no one in the customer’s service department. I don’t know Emby but I guess it’s time I have a look at it too.
With Google Play Music shutting down and YouTube Music being terrible for playing your own music, THIS feature would be a hugh plus.
I just moved all my music from YouTube Music to my Plex server and I have synced it with my phone for playback while I’m driving. But I can’t say “Ok Google play SONG on Plex”. This is very needed while driving.
I have purchased a Lifetime Plex Pass and would very much like some Google Assistant support, please.

I also skipped the YTM migration from Google Play and went straight to Plex. With PlexAmp missing casting and no google assistant support to request a song… I’m not sure how long I can keep my family as happy Plex supporters.
I have google assistant everywhere and cannot understand why plex does not jump on this awesome platform. I have been with plex for over 9 years and am worried they are not keeping up with the major smart home trends. Please can we have some priority or at least a status on support for the google API. If this does not happen soonish i will also start experimenting with alternatives.

I’ve been waiting for this integration since 2016. Seemed like a no-brainer. I keep checking back every few months. It just seems like Plex is trying to lure in more customers by adding more shiny things while neglecting the foundation. Google seems to be going backwards with customization and features, and up with price, not unlike Apple.

I was checking back on this to see if any official response was posted. I told a few more people that were unhappy with Youtube music about Plex.
I hope the Plex company reads this.

Please! For the love of all that is good and holy! Give us Google Home integration! I know its possible! I’ve seen 2 janky workarounds from GitHub that worked, surely the crack team of devs at Plex can come up with an official, non-janky, solution!

I posted this in one of the other threads - but the new Google Home/Assistant API includes a Channels class and devices types that include streaming box. I’m pretty sure Plex support should be possible now.
Its supported on home assistant, no idea if plex made the integration or someone else.
Maybe that’s what Plex have been waiting for. Don’t understand why they are so quiet on this. I am now using Emby with G assistant and it works pretty well … prefer Plex tho
