+1 google assistant is getting popular and as a Plex user this would be awesome to have.
I have to agree here… these base features for plex should be considered.
I’d like to take a poll and see how many people use the “arcade” feature? or the live streaming one for that matter (not OTA, but lame internet feeds)?
For me, my sole use of plex remains for my video management and displaying of. Second it’s for music playback, however because it’s not as easy as asking “hey google” I have stayed with YTM for the ease within my family. Third may be for live tv when I pull the plug on my cable in summer 2022 and switch to an antenna.
Emby even has a sync/backup option to help with duplication/back ups for those who chose to not to any RAID solutions…
Plex peeps, you need to focus on what got you here… unless I’m out to lunch and these new services are doing well, but otherwise dedicated users will eventually give up.
As someone who likes to choose and remain loyal to tech ‘brands’ for their functionality and long term flexibility and also a long time lifetime Plex Pass holder, I have to say the attitude displayed towards loyal customers wanting what is now considered an everyday tech functionality and integration is pretty shocking! Having just moved house and installed a high speed LAN specifically for use with my Plex Server as well as Google Home devices (now in every room) this comment alone and the general “no can do and not our problem” attitude has convinced me it’s time to move on elsewhere! Sad to see yet another once customer centric trailblazing piece of tech fall victim to the big business ethos that renders this type of “I’m alright now Jack, I don’t need you no more, so see ya!” approach to the loyal customers who invested their hard earned at the outset and put Plex where it is today. Let’s hope Emby do a better job of keeping it real and remembering where they came from and where they are going. Wish me luck Elan! See ya.
@elan needs to send himself on customer service training

yeah because sarcasm is exactly the way to deal with frustrated customers.

Today, Ratner’s speech is still famous in the corporate world as an example of the value of branding and image over quality. Such gaffes are now sometimes called “doing a Ratner”.

I’ll save you a ton of hassle. It’s horribly broken in Plex and they ignore people’s issues with that as well.
This Elan guy must be a troll.
Some guy gives him Business 101 advice that consumers will go to suppliers who can fulfill their demands & he queries whether he’s being threatened.
Customers then start leaving (Surprise!) & he says goodbye? Definitely a troll, or stupid, or knows something we don’t know that he doesn’t want to say.
Whatever the case, after 6 years of using Plex, I am right now going to checkout Embly.
going to checkout Embly.
good luck with “Embly” ![]()
Thanks Elan, I picked up the typo as soon as I googled it and then I thought, hmm, let’s leave it in and see how I’m corrected.
Hey Google “Say goodbye to Elan”
Sorry for all the name calling, but this apparently fires people up, probably since they care.
I guess this integration isn’t easy or you would have made it happen a long time ago.
You have customers, as I, since Plex is one of the best products on the market. I use it on a daily basis with my stationary kitchen PC or around the house using my scratch pad, sorry Samsung tablet and it works for me. Sometimes it would have been nice to control wit verbal commands (have a nest hub in every room) but since Google Home sometimes f*cks everything up in both my native Swedish and English I’m not sure how often I would use it since I realized that it was possible to do on Android TV so I replaced all my TVs and continued my Plexful life, and that was that.
But don’t get me wrong here, I’m a tech nerd running Plex server on Ubuntu, and I do really want to have everything controllable via Google home Nest / Athom Homey Pro / etc.
Thanks for the word.
Is there anything the community could do to help with getting this integration sorted?

I’m a little confused why the ability to choose Plex as a streaming music provider in Google Home is not worth it or interesting?? YouTube Music and Spotify are integrated and people use it all the time.
I don’t want to carry my phone around the house. I just want to be able to play my whole library on random or a playlist and say next track play and stop. Or at least play from my phone/pc and then control with my voice.
…you can already do all of this
Unless you’re a monthly subscriber (and even then, minimal) you literally do nothing but cost them money and throwing a fit on a forum provides literally no incentive for them to care what you want. Business 100, if we’re giving out lessons.
You obviously missed the first class of Business 100. Let me fill you in Bigmouth. Consumers won’t pay for things that don’t do what the want.
