Google Drive storage frustration

So I’ve had media on Google Drive for Plex for a while now. I used to use drive File Stream to access it, but now I use RClone.

I have almost all scheduled tasks turned off except BACKUP DATABASE and REMOVE OLD CACHE.

For some reason, every day I look at my Drive audit log and see hundreds of downloads - it’s usually stuff I’ve uploaded relatively recently, but I can’t find the accesses in the server log or the scanner log.

Thankfully it’s been a while since I hit the API ban, but I really need to know why my Plex computer is downloading every episode of a recently added tv show five times each, multiple days in a row.

Here’s a bit of Server Log - maybe someone knows what it’s doing and how to stop it…

I know enough to download logs but looking through them isn’t helping me figure out how to stop processing the same files over and over again, causing thousands of daily downloads multiple times.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Mod-Edit: put some code-tags around those snippets to make them more easy to read

I’m not quite sure what exact issue you experience…
During a first read, I understood this is about files being constantly downloaded from your Google Drive – after re-reading things I consider you’re talking about Plex downloading only metadata for your (newly added) videos?!

The log snippets you included seem unrelated to that issue…

Here’s what is happening…
Every morning I check my Google Drive log and daily it seems that Plex is accessing every file of a particular recently added tv show and downloading multiple copies of it. I know it does this when adding to add metadata, etc, but it’s accessing these files - every episode downloading multiple times every few days for no apparent reason. I assume it’s metadata related, but I really have no idea and looking at the logs doesn’t help me.

I can send logs if you think it will help. I just need to know why it’s doing it so I can fix it. It seems to be constantly downloading files from the Google Drive - all day, not just starting at 2 AM or anything like that.

Thanks.

Here’s an example of recent activity… I have a tv show that I added on 4/18 - it has 8 seasons, it is in Standard Def and the files are relatively small.

Over the past few days it is doing something to the files for about 8-10 hours each day. Downloading multiple copies of the file (using RClone) that is housed on the Google Drive.

Here’s some logs - what the heck is it doing? Why is it processing the same files over and over again. Since there’s no Plex customer service to ask, I’m at the mercy of you experts here. Thanks for your help.

Here’s some more log snippet - what is it doing??? (And how do I stop it?)

Since I see it keeps mentioning audio stream, when I look up the show in Plex, it says :
AUDIO Unknown (MP3 Stereo)

I don't know if that's relevant but there you go.

Plex analyzes the files and for that it needs to download it if it is not locally stored. Plex might also create preview thumbnails if you have enabled that.
What is your actual problem with Plex downloading it? Are you running into bans from Google for too many requests?

I have had bans in the past, and downloading thousands of files - the same files - every single day will probably cause one again. Thankfully it hasn’t but I don’t know why.
I have thumbnails off and have
Scan my library periodically off
optimize database every week off
refresh local metadata every three days off
update all libraries during maintenance off
upgrade media analysis during maintenance off
refresh metadata periodically off
Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance off

Should it be accessing these files daily? I know there were days and even weeks where I had no plex activity but the last week or so it seems to be going through recently added stuff and scanning every file (and thus downloading them multiple times) every single day.

It doesn’t seem like it should be doing that.

Maybe some of your newly added files are bogus. I had that with some of my cable recordings, where plex tried to create thumbnails every day starting new while there were obviously none created.

Just a thought, I don’t actually know what your lines from the log mean.

Thanks for your help. The files are fine. There are three recently added tv shows that it seems to be constantly doing SOMETHING to on a daily basis and they have nothing in common at all and they all play perfectly.

Do you have your own api credentials? I am even doing thumbnail generation for my gdrive files and haven’t come across any ban yet.

I do. But from my understanding the ban comes from too many downloads more often than API calls. And as an example so far today my Google Drive files on Plex have been downloaded 4190 times. For no seeming reason.

Can’t anyone look at my posted log snippets and tell me what Plex is doing and why and how to stop it from doing it to the same files daily?

Thanks to everyone who’s trying to help.

This problem persists and there has to be someone from Plex who can help me. Please!!

So I have to ask… Since there’s no official Plex customer service and this is the only way to get help… what happens when there’s nobody who can help me?

It keeps on scanning (or whatever it does).
Not all mysteries will be solved.

That’s helpful. Thanks.
