Yes the casting to Chromecast works but what it is is the lack to be able to control Plex verbally via Google Home assistant. Some people prefer to not need the phone in the den while watching movies or a computer that’s why they buy these devices.
+1 for this as well. Native support from Plex would be great. Phlex was hit and miss with my Shield on my network.

Ever since that announcement the thought had definitely crossed my mind.
Kodi isn’t really a competitor of Plex, it only competes with Plex media player, not the plex media server (it’s main offerings). That’s like saying that itunes competes with windows media player. You can use both together very easily, which in this case is probably what I’ll do in order to get google assistant natively!
Also, I just the read the original article and news announcement and this just looks like Kodi 18 will be compatible with built-in google assistant, not via the google home. So for example, on your Shield TV or Android TV you’ll be able to speak to the controller and lookup movies and control them, but not via a google home unfortunately. I’m pretty sure plex on android tv already has this functionality as well.
PLEASE add support for Google Home!!!

“Different teams” working on different projects. Plex belives they have the resources allocated correctly… same goes for Plex VR and podcasts. Voice control is all the rage right now and way more accesible than VR let alone how much it can help the handicapped. You would think Plex would work faster/harder. They have the alexa for sometime but even that they just hired the developer. For now the closest thing we have to Google is through Phlex/Flex TV.
We’re evaluating both and I’m pulling for Google Home but Alexa is winning over the hearts and minds of the family. The Plex integration is just one more nail in the Google Home coffin.

Don’t get too set on Alexa/Plex compatibility. It run’s like hot garbage. It’s just as useful as Google Home at this point.
