Top voted feature request, what’s the status…

Plex staff I have a suspicion this feature will never happen because of a legal issue or something business related. It doesn’t matter if i’m right about that however if you know this feature won’t be coming could you please tell us so i can just forget about it? It’s obviously a very requested feature and you haven’t addressed it in many years.

Has nothing to do with legal issue. As mentioned previously, Google home integration, there are technical limitations on Google’s side that is preventing this.

We’ve left this request open so we can continue to gauge user’s interest if/when Google removes their limitations.

It’s about time someone flies over to Google in person and says, “Hey listen! We need “this enhancement” so make it happen.”

However, I sort of have a feeling Google has shot themselves in the foot so bad in the last couple years with big brother tactics and random shutdowns of half their ecosystem, that a decade from now this will be a moot point as everyone flees for more consumer friendly platforms.

Can someone share what the technical limitations are? Google also has forums where you can request features. Last I saw, they were pointing at the Plex team and Plex is pointing at them. This would be a great feature, especially for music, but details and who we can encourage to help make this happen seem hard to find. Any guidance?

Google Home cannot talk to a local server to identify it’s content. Google needs to know what’s available before it can send the playback command. No content, so no plauyback.

So on the other platform Alexa is aware of what’s available?

Yes. Alexa doesn’t need to know ahead of time. It talks to your PMS directly and does a search for what you tell it. If it’s found, it plays, if not, you get an error.

I just spent a good 10 minutes scrolling through this thread and didn’t see a single post about privacy. Have we given up completely because google already has all our info anyways?

Were you expecting someone to jump into this thread and say don’t implement the feature?

Right? Silly me! :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I was expecting someone to jump in and say let’s implement this feature, but here are some concerns we should keep in mind. For example, it’s no secret that google is good at scanning our personal content for keywords, so let’s make sure they don’t somehow get access to our libraries…
