While I’m here to +1 the 2FA thread, it’d be wrong not to stop by here.
+1 please, this is my Mom’s account but she really wants it too!
Who’s an influencer out there? We need to flood the Google home team by saying to your smart device “Ok Google, leave feedback” then when she asks how she can help say “Add ability to set plex as preferred music player” or “Add Plex as preferred music service”
I just chatted with a service rep who loved this idea but said it’s a contract deal between Plex and Google. Google feedback decides who they reach out to. If the 41k who looked at this feature request sent in feedback, that’d prob get some attention. See transcript below:
Exactly; keep letting Google and Plex know. Plex can reach out via contracting and convey their userbase. Don’t pass the buck.
Some Google developer out there is going to be like “why did we suddenly get 50 requests for Plex all on the same day”.
Ok but let’s be totally honest here. Google is the grim reaper of its own products and services. “Thank you Plex user stranger guy, I guess we found something at Google to do today since we don’t do much over here with our stuff.”
Plex admins closing topics that are valid and deserve to stay open:
Different feature request on this other post, asking for default MUSIC service. This post is for integration, period. Preferably video, but really anything.
Same thing. Whether it’s music or videos, it’s still limited by Google. Once they remove their limitations, integration can be added for either type of media. No need for 2 requests when it’s basically asking for the same thing.
It appears that the new Google Home/Assistant API has added a Channels class and different device types, including streaming box. I’m pretty sure the new API will allow for Plex integration now.
I mean at this point it “kind of” works with the basic functionality but crashes hard when it doesn’t.
The new API I referenced is described here: https://developers.googleblog.com/2020/07/announcing-new-smart-home-shed-types-and-traits.html
This would be a great feature.
Living in the Netherlands and amazon is not supported, so would love to see google integration.
Hey google, play Real Steel on shield tv —> bam starts playing
Google Assistant now has a way to set your Podcast service preference. I use Plex for my podcasts every day and I would love to set my Google Assistant to integrate into Plex for that.
It’s especially frustrating that Alexa can already play music from my Plex server, but Google Home can’t. I don’t want to need one of each in every room where I want to listen to music!
So many votes and still haven’t heard even a whisper of this… Please Plex, give us a Christmas present to make 2020 not a complete piece of garbage
Really need this, with Google forcing people on to YouTube Music I want to move fully to Plex, potentially with a TIDAL subscription; however, neither Plex nor TIDAL are available as Google Assistant Music Providers; so to be able to ask my Google Home devices to play music I’ll have to get a YouTube Music, Spotify or Deezer subscription.
Over 2,300 votes seems like a very clear message that this is wanted by a lot of paying customers…
Google Play Music used to allow you to upload music, create playlists, and play them on any of the home devices. And Youtube Music allows you to upload and create playlists.
So this ridiculousness of needing a subscription to play Youtube Music on a home device is just an artificial restriction Google is using to try and promote subscriptions. Kinda reminds me of that stupid crap they pulled with Google+ trying to make it almost impossible to do anything on Youtube without a matching Google+ profile.
Hopefully they’ll eventually realize how petty it makes them appear to allow play of custom music on some devices but not others.
Yes, please!
Yes for Google home integration, maybe then ill be able to search within Metadata/description of movies.
We need a compatibility with “Ok, Google !” ^^
