So, who’s excited for TIDAL?!?!!?
Voted. Would be exciting to see this.
Will repurchase Plex pass subscription when this is implemented.
I so wish this was on the cards. Come on Plex Devs where are you?
@elan can you please just comment on this, even if ‘no’
I’d be happy to! As far as I know, we’re still limited by the lack of functionality available to third party devs for on-device audio playback. I have a device here, other devs do, so we continue to be interested when and if the functionality becomes available.
Thank you!
Was on-device audio playback what this thread was about? I was looking for the Google Home to control Plex playback on a chromecast or other playback device. Giving me functionality like “Play Die Hard via Plex on chromecast”. Was that just me?
Yes that’s what I want too. I assume it’s one-and-the-same with audio/video on any device initiated by Google Assistant in reference to what @elan mentioned.
Is it possible to use the Google Home as a mic that’s always listening like the game controller?
Def still the case. But could look into partnership which opens up on device playback. https://assistant.google.com/business/form/
This probably will never happen. Amazon is a big funding source for plex.
I suspect they will pull plex funding if it was added.
(plex is the GUI for amazon prime video).
What I was looking for waS:
ME:
OK Goggle, play “some song”.
GOOGLE HOME SPEAKER:
OK - playing “some song” from your plex media server…
You’d need to add plex as a music provider to do this. If you contacted google, i’m sure they’d talk to you. Tune-in, Spotify and Deezer have all managed to get their services added as a music service.
I really dont want to say "ask plex media server to play “some song”. "OK- I’ll ask plex media serve to play “some song”…
The command is too long, especially when i have to say it 5 or 6 times because google cant find the correct track.
I’m assuming part of the problem is that each of the services you named are a single central repository of music located on the web, while Plex Media Servers are separate per user.
I don’t know if that means too much traffic would have to flow through Plex.tv or not. Obviously the ideal setup would be to make a direct connection between PMS and the end point without having to stream out to Plex and back in to the Home or Chromecast unit.
If I could vote multiple times, I’d put all 5 on this one.
I believe you may be mistaken with this point - at least based off the screenshots I’ve seen, Prime Video looks exactly like Fire TV (as is expected), I doubt Amazon would outsource this type of design to a (relatively) tiny company when they could just do it in house
Look on YouTube at people using Amazon prime video.
It looks like plex, behaves like plex.
If that’s not plex, then plex need to sue amazon for copyright infringement.
Large companies do pay smaller companies to use their software as a stepping stone into the market.
For example ‘design spark’ by RS Components is a rebranded version of ‘Easy-PC’ by NumberOneSystems.
This gives an instant solution without investment costs - good for when you need to move fast into a new market or acquire love film…
Do you have a example link of this? I have Amazon Prime Video and it looks nothing like Plex to me, and none of the videos I found on Youtube look like Plex.
Request that Google add a Plex Service!
I presume Google communicates with each service via http protocols. The Google Assistant account would just need to be hard coded to also use a local ip as a source. This would limit using Google home/assistant to only accessing Plex locally, but I would assume that would meet the desires of 90% of users requesting this feature. Instead of whatever public domain is each outside service uses, it would access Plex via 192.168.x.x (whatever is the PMS is on).
