Google TV not connecting to Plex Server

Server Version#: 1.23.1.4528
Player Version#:8.17.1.25326 (Google TV)

My Google TV shows my server as OFFLINE and does not connect.
I can access my server remotely from the cell phone app and web browser, this started happening 2 days ago.

Should I provide any logs from Google TV? If so, how do I get them

Thanks!

Hello @nanoplx,

I have the same issue t randomly. I found rebooting the chromecast and waiting a couple of minutes helps. Think it needs time to connect to the server.

You could always try and clear the data and cache as well then relink it.

Yep, same issue and a reboot doesn’t fix it either. I can connect fine through PC, iPhone & iPad, but Google TV saying its offline.
Any other suggestions?

Did you happen to find a solution. Same thing started happening to me.

I’m getting this same issue. Just has an exclamation point next to my server name. I can connect with Roku’s and other Chromecasts just fine.

I have this same issue.

Does anyone have a fix?

I’m having the same issue on the Walmart Onn stick.

Never had an issue till yesterday, recently updated Plex server on my Synology NAS and now the Plex app says it won’t connect to my server on my Google TV - although it works fine on all other devices - Roku TV, iPad, iPhone, Mac etc. Not much in the way of fixes anywhere, thinking we’ll just have to wait until Google updates something that’s wrong?

Can you restart the device. Then open the app and grab the android logs.

Also can you go to its advanced settings and set ā€œallow insecure connectionsā€ to ā€œon the same networkā€

That worked for my google tv Chromecast (both) perhaps that was a setting that got tripped back by the Plex update? Thanks for the solution working great now.

I am having a similar connection issue … can not establish any secure connections.

I set a few things to do a direct connection and allow unsecured on same network but some devices dont have those settings so still wont work.

thanks

My Plex server is not only same network, will this setting work anyways?

I’ve realized I have this connection problem happen EVERY TIME the Google TV crashes and restarts due to the HEVC + ExoPlayer format issue that crashes the device. Once it reboots, it will not connect back to the server until I clear the app cache and files, and reconnect to the server.

Im switching to an Apple TV. Ive been dealing with this nightmare for 8 months now.

I stumbled upon this thread while searching for a solution to the same issue which I thought was the fault of my WD My Cloud NAS server which Plex said it was not connecting to, as everyone has been describing.

Then I realized the issue in my case may be the fault of a bug in the Google TV Plex app I was running. Since my Samsung TV has Google TV and it also still has the Samsung TV Plex app installed. So I went out of Google TV and back to the Samsung TV Plex app and, sure enough, Plex was running off the My Cloud server just fine.

This issue is about the Google TV Plex app, so if you have GTV plugged into a smart TV - I suggest you install Plex on your smart TV outside of Google and that should solve the issue until Plex deals with it…whenever that might be.

I’m having this exact same issue on my Nvidia Shield. Plex works on other devices just fine. This issue has only started recently (today). I uninstalled Plex and reinstalled an older version and everything works as intended. Once I update, I can no longer connect to my server.

Thanks a lot it works

Recently had this problem myself. Found that logging in as my profile (the admin requiring a pin) worked, my kid and inlaws profiles worked but showed no libraries, and my wifes profile would say server was offline. On the chromecast w/ google tv I went to edit on my wifes profile on the login screen of plex, put in my admin pin, then went to the libraries setting which was set to none… set back to the ones she normally has and now its all working as expected.

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the same problem everyone else is facing but we have recently purchased a Google Chromecast TV and installed the PLEX app and got it connected to our local PLEX server running on the same network however after a couple of minutes when we try and open PLEX to watch a movie we keep getting an error stating ā€˜Something Went Wrong’ when trying to play a movie. The PLEX app is still connected to the PLEX account however, it seems to lose connection to the server. Would anyone know how to get around this problem?

Thanks
