Google TV Plex App Not Finding My Server

Server Version#: 1.42.1.10060
Player Version#: 2025.20.0 (966828434)

Hi all,

The Plex app on my TV cannot connect to my server.

My server is online and functioning, and I can access it in the following places:

-iOS app on mine and my wife’s phone and iPad.

-Chrome web browser on my desktop PC.

But my Phillips smart TV can’t access the media. We also have a small, older TV in the house with a Chromecast attached, and the app on the Chromecast also cannot access my media.

I just tried it on my Android tablet via the Plex app (player version above) and that is also not able to access my media. In all cases, the app itself is functioning and can access the media Plex itself offers, but not my server’s contents.

I’m a bit stumped as to what’s causing this, as it only seems to be specific devices and apps that are not able to access the media, and the server itself appears to be working fine. All relevant apps are up to date, and I’ve tried clearing their caches, logging out and back in etc. I have also power cycled the TV a few times.

Additional note: while trying to troubleshoot this myself, I also noticed in my server settings that Plex is saying my Remote Access is also not working.

remote access

I have had Remote Access on for a year with no issues, haven’t changed any settings on Plex or my home internet in any capacity. Out of curiousity, I disconnected my phone from my home internet, tried to access my media from the Plex app on my phone… and it is still working? So I DO still have Remote Access despite the above error. I am struggling to make any sense of this.

Any help appreciated. First time poster, apologies if I have left out any important details.

Thanks in advance all.

Last things first.

Plex has a Relay feature that functions like Remote Access but with limited bandwidth which tends to fool people into falsely thinking their Remote Access is working. Confusing the issue is when you click on the configure it goes green for a few minutes but then fails back to red. Since that is only relevant if you are outside your home move on to the clients.

You have a mixture of old and new clients, old being they are in the process of rewriting them and have released Roku, IOS and Android Mobile “New Experience” clients. These new clients only work over secure connections, so if anything with your server is amiss then they won’t connect or cast.

Check your Philips TV against the list here: Smart TV’s

The Android tablet is a couple versions back on the client ( 2025.24.0 is current).

Depending on what generation of Chromecast, it may not work with the new clients. Google has dropped support for anything older than Gen3.

With the requested password change and forced server update is your server claimed?
In a browser, connect to your server and make sure you have a green padlock next to the server name. (Wrench/Server Settings)

Plex seems to work best when your Router is pointing at 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 for DNS but it could have a feature that is blocking Plex from setting up Secure connections so Server Logs may be necessary.

Thank you for the lengthy reply!

I was able to reset my password and claim my server without issue after the breach, thankfully.

I am now able to view my server contents on the TV and Chromecast again by changing the ‘allow insecure connections’ on the respective apps.

Wonderful!
