Plex smart tv app cannot connect to remote server

Hi,
I have a frustrating problem when a i try to connect to my plex server outside my home network by any kind of samsung smart tv by Plex App (5.6.1). When i try to connect i receive ever message (<my_server_name> is Currently Unvailable). Everithing work well when:

  • i try to connect by smartphone plex app using 4G connection.
  • If i use web browser app of smart tv (connection to the url (http://<my_server_name>:32400/)),
  • If i try to connect inside my home network

The security is setting as

Use secure connection: preferred

Inside logs nothing is showed about this issue.

What can i do to solve ?

Have you tried using your smart phone on the same network as the TV to see if it can connect? More than likely it is the router blocking the port or the network settings on the TV.

The smartphone connected to same network works as well.

  • Plex smartphone app works for both inside and outside home network
  • Browser works for both situation inside and outside home network

Only smart tv app doesn’t work outside home network. Everithing it’s configured correctly

  • Firewall and port are correctly configured on FritzBox router
  • Firewall is configured correctly on Widows server where plex server are executing
  • Plex server by his user interface inform that the server is reachable correctly outside the home notwork.

But i repeat, everithing works well for any kind of devices insted of smart tv app.

I don’t know wich kind of other configuration i could test to solve this annoing problem

Network settings on the tv cannot be the problem because on the same tv using browser app everithing works well. But you can image that the usability of plex using browser app of smart tv is frustrating because i need to use tv remote to move arrow and to navigate web site or to login with my plex user. In this way it’s very difficult to use plex on smart tv

Are you moving the TV from your home network to remote since you said it works on your home network? Have you logged out and reauth your tv when remote?

I have a smart tv to my first home where is located plex server (home network one) and a smart tv to another one home (ever mine - holiday home) outside the netowork where is located plex server. This is the scenario. But yesterday i took another test. From my smart tv inside home network where is located plex server (home network) i disconnected smart tv from home network and i connected smart tv to internet sharing the internet connection of my smartphone (tethering) and this last one connected to the internet by network data (4g). Also in this situation when a try to connect plex app to my server throught external network i get the same error again.

Hmm interesting. Have you tried relinking the TV while it is working in remote mode?

Hello, I am also having this problem for anyone who’s trying to use the smart tv plex app to login to my plex server. The browser implementations work fine and the smart tv plex apps work fine if they’re connecting to my local plex server, but any remote plex servers do not work.
