My music library is stored on a Synology NAS, and I have a Premium Plex account. I do not have problems with my basic library, which match Last.FM metadata with my audio files. But I wish I could take advantage of the Gracenote feature, and when I create a premium library, Gracenote’s analysis does not work.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Thank you for your answer,
My library is clean. I do not have problems with the scan of my library, I have a problem with metadata analysis (including Gracenote)
Please explain a little more in detail what you mean by that.
Please provide examples of what is working in a last.fm library that doesn’t in a Premium library.
For example: album reviews, genres, rankings, video clips, moods … Gracenote’s tag does not appear and the only data that Plex downloads comes from Last.FM. And I do not know why.
All these things take much longer to appear than in a last.fm library.
If you have quite a large number of items, it can take several days until everything is processed.
Is your server connected to the internet?
It looks like it has issues reaching plex.tvCouldn't resolve host 'plex.tv'
Could you please look into your Synology’s network configuration?
Look for an input field labeled ‘MTU’ (Maximum Transmission Unit/maximum packet size)
note down the value in it
Then perform a test in the terminal / command line
replace the number ‘1472’ in the following lines with the MTU number which you determined above, reduced by 28
mac: ping -c 2 -D -s 1472 google.com
pc: ping -n 2 -f -l 1472 google.com
If you get a message back which looks similarly to this: 1480 bytes from 208.77.188.166: icmp_seq=0 ttl=46 time=185.42 ms
all is well.
If you however get something like ping: sendto: Message too long or packet requires fragmentation or similar, then the MTU value in the network configuration of your Syno is too high.
Repeat the command line test with a lower number until you don’t get a negative message anymore. Then raise the number slightly, step by step and test again, until you have determined the highest usable value.
Now add 28 to that value and put it back into the input field for the MTU, then reboot your NAS.
OK, thanks for confirming.
Then there must be a different source of the connectivity issues.
I can see that the server prepares the sonic fingerprints of the tracks but they fail to get sent off to Gracenote.
There are also other downloads failing, like for instance the list of movie trailers and other things. So there is definitely something wrong with the network connectivity.
Have you tried to set up a Plex server on your PC or Mac?
It’d be interesting to see if Premium music is failing there as well.
Videoclips have nothing to do with Gracenote. They came from Vevo and Vevo has terminated the contract over 2 years ago.
I can see that the connectivity issues are absent from the Mac log files. The album gets matched properly by its sonic fingerprints.
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - Premium Music
Which line is in the top position here?
It should be ‘Plex Premium Music’, because if it is ‘Local Media Assets’ instead, the embedded genre info of your files will take precedence and override the info from Gracenote.
Ok, Thanks, there’s new data
But how to fix the problem on my Synology server?
Too bad for the video clips. But what do Gracenote do more than Last.FM? Because I thought there are new data like rankings, or critic reviews…
Did you assign your Syno a fixed IP address or does it get its IP automatically from your router? (called DHCP)
Take another look into the network configuration of the Syno. Does it have a DNS server defined? If not, put the IP address 8.8.8.8 into the appropriate field and reboot the NAS.
