Just updated and tested, fully grey bars still present…
do you guys also have sometimes a green or strange line on the bottom of some regular videofiles with your sony TV? Samples found here: Plex Testing - Movies.rar - Google Drive Can someone test it and tell me with what TV you tested? There is a discussion on another thread but maybe some TVs don´t have the problem?
same issue here. Hope it gets fixed soon. Really annoying - the native Sony video app can play it without problems…
maybe you can also report on the Sony tech support… All reports can help to get a better chance of beeing recognised
Wasn’t this fixed in a previous build?
I was hoping to be able to enjoy some movies during the only downtime I have in the year.
It wasn’t fixed there was ghosting of the menu hud
sony tv still have grey bars
Yup, no updates yet
@SamFromPlex maybe can shed some light
I have fixed this issues on my 65905f Bravia that I got recently. The workaround is installing Kodi and installing Plex Addon.
Make sure to go into the settings and make sure there is zero processing of the video and also allow direct processing of 4K and h265/x265 in settings of Kodi.
The gray bars didn’t appear in Kodi however there was a shuttering issue until I allowed direct h265 processing.
I’ll be going back into Plex setting to make sure that everything is direct streaming and zero processing via app there must be a fix for Plex since it works via Kodi with Plex add-on
Edit: all the lastest versions were used of Plex, Kodi and Plex addon. Video tested is a hdr 10bit 4K video
The latest Kodi v18 Leia release candidate has the grey bars issue for me unfortunately. Leia is due to replace the older v17.6 Krypton shortly.
Beta 1 was ok but latest Leia’s are not as I tested too.
As the years go by
like my hair in the night light
the bars are still grey
Grey bars still present on Sony Android tv 4k 55x8505c
The latest leia release candidate (literally the last 48 hours) has solved the grey bars issue. Yay! Successfully watching 4k HDR content using the Plex plugin in Kodi.
Good to know but i want it native… i am fed up with workarounds, especially when i read about sony stopping kodi in the near future. Some later sony tvs already have it banned…
Edit: looks like it was “accidentally” , but who knows what they do
…
Do we know what they did to fix it?
I saw a discussion on the Kodi forums about it, a dev was asking people to try out different builds with potential fixes.
Apparently it causes a performance hit on Android.
When you bring up the Kodi UI you can see the grey bars, but they disappear again when the UI is gone. I think this was an issue Plex had with their implementation of the fix.
A Kodi dev has been able to fix this with a test build. Download the apk here http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/kodi-20190109-6f984677-trans3-armeabi-v7a.apk
I get that it’s gotta be hard to manage and support all the clients that exist running Plex, but this one should be fixed by now.
I also feel like it’s kinda crazy that every version of Android for every device works slightly differently. Shouldn’t they all be standardized?
Someone here able to check if new european Android Oreo Update made a change on the grey bar issue?
