Grid View Update for DVR Program Guide - WHEN???
Closing the forum post doesn’t mean its resolved
as they say at id Software . . . “When it’s done”
I wish they would lock and or delete these threads.
I’ve been using the Program Guide for about 9 months now and it’s not that bad - you typically know the name of the show you want to record - type it into the program guild and it will return the result!
If you know the station it’s on . . . filter by channel and select it there
It’s not that hard to use . . .

Obviously and no when said otherwise.
When it’s done
I’m not saying it’s resolved - I’m saying they are working on it and constantly complaining about it won’t get it here faster.

It’s not a matter of ease of use. I am browsing and don’t know the name of a show. I want to see schedules for at least a week in advance so I can look into programs that look like they might be interesting. Imagine if tiveo or ANY other “dvr” did otherwise.

Right, that’s why Plex changed their minds and decided to implement a grid-style guide, which by the way is copyrighted, and is probably part of the delay. There are licensing issues as well as software development aspects to this offering.
And this whole situation is a perfect example of why Plex generally doesn’t announce features in advance…

Good point.
However, this time they did announce it and it was likely due in no small part to all the clamoring for it. I agree that people should manage their expectations no matter what. Still if the squeaky wheel gets the oil,…its hard to argue against making ones desires known.
I don’t need them to announce features in advance. I don’t care if it is a
grid type which needs a licensing deal. A basic rudimentary style of any
design is fine until something better, is doable. I mean, look around, not
hard you will find different types EVERYWHERE. No need to be defensive for
the benefit of Plex, they are doing a great job with so many things and I
am not whining. This is the place to discuss this. Shutting down the
conversation in this way is not helpful. Thanks anyway.

You don’t know the name of the show? Are you kidding? That’s the only way I know that I want to record a show.
Not go only let me look at the schedule and record random shows??!!?? I can’t imagine looking at a 2 week grid to find the show I wanted - that would be looking at a grid the size of 1,218 cells for me for 1 hour . . . I have 87 channels enabled and multiply that by 14 . . . or do you want to look at 2 hours? that’s 2,438 cells in a grid . . .
There’s data and then there’s usable information - and I’m not sure either of those examples above provide usable information. However going into Plex as it stands right now I can filter shows by channel and see all of the shows that are going to be shown over the next 2 weeks.
You have to know what you want - I switched from TiVo and use the same process - I know the name of my show and I search it and schedule it. I see a commercial and go oohhh that’s looks good and I whip out my iPhone and I schedule it.
Do I like the Program Guide as it is now? NO but it’s usable

Some people regurgitate what they see frequently on these forums even if they don’t know a thing about it. Kind of a “me too” to get street cred or something, I have no idea. The article is an eye opener but even if it was copyrighted it’s not like ANYTHING else couldn’t be used.
From a developers position, I can see why they implimented what they implemented - It fits in within the existing layout of Plexs title/coverart without needing to code anything especially new, and it works even if its not especially user friendly. It was just the quickest way of getting TV within the existing framework. I think the whole copyright line was just that, a line to cover a lack of development and get the product out as soon as possible. It kinda works and its the only reason for subscribing to plex pass. Well that and plex sync (if it actually worked more than 20% of the time…)
Here’s the last official news release, which was edited on Feb 20:
It looks like it’s a high priority, and will be arriving this quarter.

Show me how any of those patents discussed cover the guide/grid format? (Which, btw, isn’t even applicable to Netflix service).

No where does that post say first quarter. Merely that it was delayed from the last quarter of last year and there are now “plans to deliver it as soon as we can”.

And sometimes, we’ve been using numerous DVR software and services for more than a decade and actually know what we’re talking about.
The article is an eye opener but even if it was copyrighted it’s not like ANYTHING else couldn’t be used.
Really? Back that up with some actual facts, would you?
I’m confused. You want me to back up my statement that anything besides a grid would be fine with me? I don’t know about your 10 years worth of DVR experience but I can tell you that I’ve driven a car for over for 40 years and I am not an expert on cars. Very puzzling.

I’m asking the same thing - when you have a topic or question - check to see if there are any other posts relating to your topic instead of creating a new one - there are like 3 other threads on the front page asking the same thing . . .
Be polite and don’t spam something that’s already out there.

I did not start this post, it was something of interest to me and that is why I am here. If you were referring to someone else I apologize.
