Guest DJ. Wow!

Loving the mix I’m getting with Guest DJ. Rarely does a piece of software give me the joy that Plexamp does. Thanks!

and i love the little things like how the icon goes blue
when it’s playing the extra in plexamp for mac

I realize Guest DJ is still beta… I installed Version 1.29.2.6364 of the server code so I could take a look at Guest DJ with ios Plexamp 4.5.2 on my iPhone. I use “Settings->Appearance->Car View->Always” all the time instead of ‘When Driving’ or ‘Never’. With current iPhone client app code, the Guest DJ function popup icon only shows up with Car View->Never.

I’m assuming and would like to see the full implementation of Guest DJ be another On/Off type of activation setting, indicating whether or not you want to see the Guest DJ function popup button on the Now Playing screen regardless of the current Car View setting (Never, When Driving, Always). In general, Guest DJ should be an optional function, with a client side setting that controls whether the function icon shows up on the Now Playing screen or not. As always, thanks for the continued enhancement of Plexamp.

car view is by design a limited mode, which might not show all the features.

I’m fine with Guest DJ not being available when Car View is set to ‘When Driving’ or ‘Always’. Thanks for the response. But as also stated, consideration should be given to allowing the user to turn off Guest DJ altogether if they never plan to use it (ie the new function icon never shows up on Now Playing screen). This being part of the rationale to keep the interface clean and allow (via settings toggles) to add new function controls to the UI. The beauty of Plexamp is the extremely clean interface with options to add controls a user plans to use (mostly configured under Appearance->Player settings). It’s the reason I configure to use Car View->Always as I love the minimal Now Playing screen all the time.

I totally agree, guest dj are the best. For me too, it’s a long time since a software gave me also some joy like plexamp.
I used to have some players that I used for playing some radio that was always the same. But now I can start a song that correspond to my mood and call my friend “DJ freeze” and he stay in that sweet spot of “sonically” related songs <3.

And on the other hand I also saw a “outside of my confort zone” to explore more new songs. Love it !

Your app is far better than a lot of others.

Thank you plexamp !

I’ve been using Guest DJ for a couple of weeks now. Reminds me of the Steve Jobs quote " A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” My favorite so far, DJ Stretch. Thanks to Elan and team for another great addition to Plexamp… the hits just keep on a comin’ !

Between troubleshooting and feature requests I just wanted to take a moment to talk about how incredible this Guest DJ feature is. I went to make my own thread called ‘Guest DJ… WOW!!!’ and this popped up.

It has totally transformed my relationship to my music library. It may be most impactful innovation in music library technology since shuffle, or maybe track radio. DJ Stretch is the one I have explored the most.

The ability to turn an album into a playlist with a push of a button, to expand a playlist by pulling from tracks out of the playlist that might be a good fit, to smooth out genre transitions between tracks when shuffling just like a DJ might, to improve the flow of a track’s radio station and enhance the selections.

Gives me a whole new reason to add albums to my library. Even before I get around to listening to them, or populating my playlists with them, they are providing fodder for the Guest DJ to blow my mind by pulling a deep cut I would never guess would fit the mood.

Thanks for making such a great App.
