I am using the latest Plex Media Server on the latest TrueNAS. However, this problem has been going on for a while. I have a SiliconDust HD HomeRun Prime cablecard tuner for live TV in Plex.
I have notice for a few of my shows, when I set a series recording to record only new shows, Plex doesn’t record anything. If I set it to record all shows (new and reruns), Plex will record all of the shows. This tells me that the guide in Plex isn’t listing the newest episodes as “new”.
Is there any way to fix this or am I out of luck with Plex’s guide data? Would XMLTV fix something like this?
There are a few posts about those shows in the thread I linked above, starting here. Apparently it’s due to the EPG providers not flagging these as new (with the assumption that that’s because PBS isn’t submitting them as new).
I’ve been manually setting up my recordings for both shows due to this situation. In the off-season, I create a recording schedule to record all (new and repeat) episodes and configure it to delete watched episodes after a day. In this way, any repeats I’ve already seen and deleted, but which get recorded again, will be automatically deleted, leaving only new, unwatched episodes.
I’ve had to set Plex to record all episodes as well. However, I will say this. TiVo records new episodes and skips the repeats with no problem. So, if that is the case, I would say with certainty that it’s an EPG issue. I just wonder if there is a way to correct that issue.
Is there a way we can use another source for EPG data?
