H265 files play choppy on Macbook when using integrated GPU

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#: 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78

macOS version: Monterey 12.1 (21C52)

Integrated GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Dedicated GPU: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M
CPU: 2,4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

When I try to play h265 video files on my 2019 MacBook Pro 16" video playback is VERY choppy when the dedicated graphics card is not active. As soon as the dedicated GPU gets activated, the playback is completely fine. The files themselves play without problems on any other video player (tested mpv, VLC and iina)

Looks like what was kinda tracked down over here: 4k files not working plex client for mac

Looks like something changed with GPU setup in native Plex app on Mac. I don’t have a dedicated GPU so can’t select another option but, like you, my files playback fine in Plex Web in Browser (via self-hosted or app.plex) and VLC\Quicktime playback.

Can I somehow help Plex with getting this fixed? This currently makes it impossible to watch 4K content on my Macbook when on battery.

Reporting it here is all we can do and hope a Plex employee takes note. I usually watch for version updates and then “report back” to bump threads about a bug until it gets noticed but I think the info provided should be enough to get it sorted until a dev asks for something specific. Some media info might help as additional references - I’m not sure of any logs to pull.

Currently I’m using work arounds for playback (web player, lower res version) as watching on my iMac is not a priority issue so I’m just watching these threads for the fix or if it’s ignored long enough just assume it’s “working as designed”.
