Happauge Wintv-QuadHD recording "TS" files instead of "MKV" files

I recently had an HAUPPAUGE WinTV-DualHD Dual USB device.

It seemed to work decent enough, but, I had the extra money so i figured why not just go with the “HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD PCI Express” and go with the 4 tuners instead of the 2.

So, now I have the PCI card.

Something I noticed though. The USB Dual HD recorded in MKV format. The PCI card records in TS file format.

I see no settings anywhere in Plex that would allow me to change this.

The reason that this concerns me, is, I used something called “VideoREDO” software for removing commercials. When Plex saves out this new TS file format, it sometimes stalls in VideoREDO. It never did this before, so, I am thinking it may be the format used for saving recordings.

Is there a setting I am overlooking for changing the format of the recordings? or is it built into the PCI card itself ?

There is neither a setting, nor is it a product of the tuner card. It is the file container that Plex has chosen to use to contain the actual recording stream. It was originally .TS (transport stream), got changed to .MKV (which caused issues with closed-captioning), and was returned to .TS with PMS 1.7.6. There are at least a couple of discussions about this if you want more information.
