What file format comes from Hauppauge cards?

I’m looking at getting the QuadHD card and wondering what file format the recordings will be when recording TV on the Plex DVR?

Unless your tuner card or recording pipeline have optional transcoding (like the HDHR Extend, or using Plex DVR transcoding), the “format” will be whatever the broadcast is encoded as. In the US, for OTA broadcasts, this is almost exclusively MPEG2. But this may also be H.264. The stream is also not a file, so the choice of container is up to the DVR software. Windows Media Center uses their own proprietary WTV container. Plex DVR started off using a TS (transport stream) container, but now uses MKV. But, again, it’s just a container. The actual audio and video in the container should be exactly the same as what the broadcast itself was using.
