Hardware MPEG 2 on RPi 3

So, if you buy the licence, the RPi 3 supports MPEG 2 en/decode in hardware (and H264 hardware encoding is always available. Live TV here in the UK is MPEG 2, so this would seem to be vital for transcoding, but the Plex Server doesn't seem to use hardware transcoding when it's available. Is there a way to force the transcoder to use the hardware, or do we need to put in a feature request?
