Hardware transcoding for Raspberry Pi 4 plex media server

This is happening the new era of ARM, it’s worth it to impulse the power of that architecture by adding more capabilities and features making possible for people to get the best and the most from their devices. Pi 4 is a demonstration of how ARM can beat in power-per-watt at any other architecture so community is growing very fast. You have the possibility to go a big step forward by adding HW transcoding support to this kind of devices in Plex Pass subscription.

+1 me too!

I will say, it seems like hardware encoding has a lot less to do with ARM specifically, than it does the specific video encoding drivers for the Raspberry Pi 4. But without a doubt it’s something that I think is worth their time.

Another +1 from lifetime pass user

+1 from me too, I’m trying to make a more environmentally friendly server!

+1 Plex lifetime pass owner

Same reasons as everyone else on here

+1 This is my top missing feature

+1 pi4 running on my system 7x24 now pls do it .

+1. Considering the size of the intersection of the raspberry pi and plex communities I think this is a very important missing feature well worth the cost of implementing it. Please do it.

multible pi’s in usage … so please do it.
i’ve a lifetime lic. and this since 7 years.

+1. I also feel like this is a feature that needs to be added.

+1. I have only ever run Plex Media Server on a Raspberry Pi 4 and I’m amazed at how well it works. H.265 content can be a challenge if it wants to burn subtitles.

Please add this feature!!!

Also looking for this feature (As I set up my pi 4b 8GB PMS which replaces my pi 3b+ PMS). Love you long time devs who never respond.

Another +1 for HW transcoding for Rpi

+1 vote I can only run 240p live TV without frequent pause.

The Raspberry Pi 4 is 18 months since having been released and transcoding is still not a realized in Plex? There must be something that is the hold up. Either operating system drivers are not available or we are misinterpreting the hardware specifications. Does anyone have any clear answers? Does +1 voting even do anything or matter?

To me it just seems as though the Plex team’s attention is elsewhere and diverting manpower to solving this isn’t a priority for them. I’m sympathetic to that, you can’t be everything to all people. Things like this often sound easy but implementing is not always so simple. But this is worthwhile in my opinion.

The only thing +1 voting does is make sure this thread doesn’t get buried and hopefully attracts the attention of someone at Plex who can make a decision. No guarantee it will actually convince them to implement it.

This is the main reason keeping me from going premium, so here’s another vote!

The Pi 4 is what got me on Plex, the HW acceleration is what will get me on Premium
