@ChuckPa
Would like to hear an update from ChuckPa regarding Pi hardware transcoding support.
An update?
- Yes, itās a feature request
- Yes, itās known
- Yes, there are AMD systems and GPUs wanting hardware transcoding support ahead of it.
Thatās all I know.
Thanks for the update! Good to know thereās a queue for hardware transcoding support. Obviously thereās a lot of hardware out there.

Another +1 for HW transcoding for Rpi
+1 for HW transcoding for Rpi4

Just replaced a dead desktop at my parentsā with a pi4, probably fine for now in-network only with direct play, but would be awesome to take full advantage of the hardware going forward!
Another +1ā¦
I see this is a highly requested feature, and I too would appreciate seeing this as there is some media that Iām unable to play on my RPi Plex systems.
Iām unsure if it helps, but the newly released Vulkan driver helps tremendously with playback support and framerates, unsure if this can support Plex on the RPi 4b series at all.
Another +1
Another +1. The only feature I really want out of Plex Pass is hardware transcoding support for RPi4B+ (and Webhooks, but there are already more flexible alternatives available). Iāll probably let my subscription lapse next month, but Iād buy a lifetime subscription today if Plex supported RPi4B+ hardware transcoding.

2021 make it happen
Iād like to see this happen as well. Just got a pi + 6TB to use as a Plex media server, so would be great if I could also use it remotely with proper transcodingā¦
+1, I just bought some part to build RPi 4 Nas that will have Plex in docker, Santa please boost the Plex team
+1, this is my voice of crying
On this note, is there any benefit to having it in docker as opposed to e.g. using dietpi OS and running it from there?
+1. Looking to lower my idle power consumption and running on a PI would do just that.
