I cannot get hardware transcoding to work on my server. I know I had it working in the past but it is no longer working for anything. I get an error about not being able to load nvcuda.dll when I try to transcode and download a file. (ReqXXXX/Transcode [FFMPEG] - cannot load nvcuda.dll) My server does not have a GPU, just using the igpu. I have tried deleting the codexs in the local folder and uninstalling and reinstalling plex. I think the issue is that it is looking for an Nvidia GPU and I only have the intel IGPU. Is there any way to manually configure my server to not look for a Nvidia GPU and look to use the IGPU instead? Can anyone help?
Server Version#: 1.29.0.6219
OS - Windows 10 64bit
Processor - Intel J4205 (has quick sync video and support for H.265 decode/encode)
I have plex pass.
Hardware acceleration enabled in plex settings
When playing media on the server locally it uses hw acceleration per task manager
I know I have had it working in the past.
I have confirmed it is not HW transcoding through plex now.
You can also look at the server log files to determine if Plex is using hardware acceleration.
Configure your Plex Server for debug level logging in Settings → Server_Name → General + Show Advanced. Do not check the box for Verbose level logs. That adds too much information.
If Verbose logging was enabled, restart Plex Media Server after changing the setting.
Play media and force a video transcode.
After 20 - 30 seconds, stop playback.
Pull the Plex log files in Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs and unzip the file.
Look in Plex Media Server.log for entries with TPU: that mention the final decoder/encoder. Jan 25, 2022 22:53:03.430 [0x7f419fadcb38] DEBUG - [Transcode] TPU: hardware transcoding: final decoder: vaapi, final encoder: vaapi
NVIDIA = NVDEC/NVENC
Intel = DXVA2/QSV (Windows) or VAAPI (Linux).
@FordGuy61 Thank you for your willingness to help. I should have specified, when saying I was using HW decoding locally I meant that when I play the media on my server via VLC player or windows bundled media player that is was using hw decoding. I believe I have resolved the issue. It was the tone mapping setting being activated that did not let my igpu help out when playing 4k HDR media.
Next issue I am having is involving downloading. I am trying to download content on my phone and I have it setup to be transcoded to 480p. (media is native 1080P HEVC) When I try to download the files it just gives me an error and will not start at all. Log below. Do you have any ideas or should I repost in the download forum?
Glad you have things working. Plex Media Server has minimal support for tonemapping on Windows. Hopefully they will have it equivalent with Linux soon.
Re: downloads, open a new thread. I don’t use that part of Plex, so can’t help much, and a new thread will get more attention. There are some existing threads regarding download issues to both iOS and Android devices. You might peruse those as well.
