Hardware Transcoding on DSM7

I have Plex installed on Synology 920+ from Package Center (using Manual Install with latest version from Plex). I have read that hardware transcoding will only work if Plex is installed o a docker container. I have been trying to get that to work, but that is another issue I asked about in another topic
Anyway, I decided to see if hardware transcoding was functioning on the native, non-docker install. I played a file on iPad, and then logged into server on my Macbook. I looked at Dashboad-Activity, and low and behold, the information about the movie playing showing (hw) which I understand means hardware encoding is being used.

Therefore, it appears that it is not necessary to installed in Docker to get hardware transcoding to work on DSM 7. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

I can confirm for you:

  1. Hardware transcoding (without HDR tone mapping) is natively available on DSM 7 for Intel x86_64 processors (J3355 and above).

  2. Be certain to enable both transcoding options

  3. If you opt to use the Docker container overlay method (to layer Docker PMS on top of your native package), The J3455 and above CPUs will support HDR → SDR tone mapping.
