Hi all… I’m not too savvy about the PCIe ports. My TVS-673e I think has PCIe 3.0 x8 ports and all the cards that I see including the MSI GTX1050Ti LP that you are saying are x16. I don’t know if I can buy a x16 and it will fit the QNAP. Can you be a bit more specific of which cards did you buy, maybe a New Egg link or Amazon?

That is not an issue. I installed the leadtek P400 (X16) on my TVS 873, which also has the x8 PCI port, and transcoding is not impacted by that.
Thank you pcamargo, I was thinking about buying something more powerful (and a bit affordable) and looked up the P600 & P620. At the end, they had the same amount of concurrent transcodings (3) and I ended up buying the P400.

I have updated to the newest QTS and the most recent PMS, I do have a Plex pass, so I’m hoping that it will unload the transcoding to that.
I was able to transcode a 4K to 1080p on my laptop but it was crushing the AMD cpu. It was running at 98%. It was crazy.
That is exactly what I did!

I am trying to get the P400 running in Docker…
So. I ended up getting a nvidia p2000 instead of the p400. I was not able to get QTS to unload the transcoding to that card in a docker. QTS wouldn’t mount the card, in my experience.
So I ended up removing the QTS and loaded Unraid on my qnap.
I am actually feed up of the QNAPs locked-system politics… Wich QNAP do you have that you can put a custom OS in it?
if it may interest someone shortly i will try a Quadro p2200 on qnap ts-873.
It will be interesting to see how much you can extract from the P2200 before your CPU maxes out. I have found that even with the P400 doing the transcode, Plex still demanded too much from the CPU, while Emby was a lot lighter on it. Which one do you use?
I only use Plex.
Now with Qnap 873 and GTX 1050 Ti 3 1080p @ 5mbps transcoding with AC3 5.1 audio I have the cpu on 7%.
Tomorrow the P2200 arrives I will perform some tests then I will post my impression here.

3 4kHDR and 10 1080p streams all with 5.1 ac3 audio
the qnap did not bend I saturated the p2200 framework with 4.92GB of occupied 5GB.
Cpu at 83% utilization and about 4GB of ram used by the qnap system.
in the last test I managed to saturate the gpu and the cpu of the nas with 27 transcoding 1080p 4mbps with audio ac3 5.1.
