Hate love

I have been using Plex for soon 10 years now. It made quite some progress, although I don’t need most of the functionality. I watch movies and TV shows on my phone while commuting. To keep data use low, I used to sync content to my device and then watch it locally.

The sync function always had its flaws, but worked reasonably well. I usually avoided updating my app, as in most cases it just introduced new bugs while I wouldn’t need the changed functionality anyway. Recently the syncing was acting up again, and given that Plex announced that new download feature, and how it should simplify things, I decided to upgrade my app. But oh well, how it just confirms my long experience.

Why does it take 3-4 minutes to open up the app alone? I know that my mobile connection is super slow to failing, cos the subway is packed and everyone is maxing out the capacity. So when I try to watch something offline, I can’t, cos Plex first needs to call home. Once finally open, my show doesn’t play, although I did set the prefer local content over streaming. So then, let’s go to the download section, and oops, the app crashed. Fine, let’s spend another 4 minutes staring at the Plex logo until it finally reached its home to tell that I started the app again.

But then, when I finally get to continue my downloaded TV show, it starts playing from the beginning, ignoring where I left of yesterday evening. Argh, is it really that difficult? Am I the only one struggling with this? Am I doing something wrong?

Then I just discovered, that I can only download stuff when I’m in the home network. When I try to download something from work, it just says that an error occurred and I should try again later? Like when? When I am home? Thank you…

And why is it that half of the time a subtitle is not showing?

It’s quite amazing how Plex uses its paying customers as beta testers for functionality that should work. Please please, just make the current functions work reliably and then introduce new features. But do so, when they are really solid, tested and do work.
