Latest CentOS server version as of writing.
When using Plex with a poor Internet connection, even when enabling offline browsing mode, Plex shows loading screens trying to open for example the season view of a synced TV show.
Further, it buffers when trying to play a fully synced episode despite enabling ‘prefer synced content’.
If I enable airplane mode (so no connection instead of a poor one), everything is instant.
Why isn’t it instant with a poor connection and offline browsing enabled? Why is there a difference in behaviour at all in these scenarios?
Dear Lord … This has gone on FOREVER. It will never get fixed because they spend too much time eating resources on garbage like Tidal. There has also been an issue getting worse and worse with the “resume” spots being way behind where you really left of and watched episodes not getting marked/synced that way back to the server. Don’t worry though… Next update will have fixes for things like fine shade being slightly off when using Plex on a Samsung smart TV’s on the third Monday off every month between 4:01am-4:03 am.
I don’t use music at all but the video sync issues is very annoying. I have encountered another issue where I get an error trying to play a synced video, but actually the video is playing just fine in the background (behind the error message)!
Related issue: I can’t delete synced content unless connected to my server. Why can’t the mobile player just delete the content on it’s own? Why does it need to talk to the server before deleting something?
I’ve been fighting through sync and download issues with another user.
It’s not a fun thing atm. Works great from some users, terrible for others.
They are probably running 5 different OS versions too.
I have the same issue. I have Plex on my Moto G7, Amazon Fire, Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, and two Smart TVs. Since the new version, I have been unable to use the Offline mode or play any synced content locally on my device.
It is apparent that the Plex app is streaming the movie (which it indicates that it is synced and available offline), because I’m blowing through data. Also, if I am in an area with poor data service, or on an airplane, I am unable to watch anything at all.
+1
Same problem here. Offline mode still tries to load something from the server. When in an area with bad 3g and want to play synced music it loads like 30 seconds until a timeout and then finally plays the song. Why can’t they just stop EVERY connection to the server when in offline mode and just play that damn content that is synced?! I cannot ask enough how stupid this is… Offline means offline! Devs? CTO?
