so it seems Hauppauge only has drivers for a specific version of Ubuntu… NOT RPM based and not at all flexible considering Plex supports my Linux distro beautifully.
From noodling around, it looks like LinuxTV may eventually get the drivers into the kernel tree, but I can’t really tell.
Anyone have thoughts?
I may be completely wrong, but in reality it is about kernel support. Once the kernel supports it, and it is a “plex supported tuner” you should be good to go.
I am using 4.10 and i got support for this tuner for free. w_scan picked up the tuner.
I am also running mint, so i could just be lucky. Hopefully this will give you a direction to go in.
Yeah, unfortunately, mint is a deb/ubuntu variant. Yes, it IS about kernel support and there SEEM to be kernel modules for the 28xx chips, but the necessary hauppauge provided firmware blob is missing… Unless you can use the deb/ubuntu ppa repo. Given a bit of time, I’ll untangle it, but it’s a PITA to have to do so.
I shifted to an HDHomerun connect. I hate the phrase, but it worked out of the box with just an antenna
