Is it currently possible to have multiple versions of a movie stacked and having Plex offer you to play a certain version when clicking play for that particular stack?
e.g. I have Army of Darkness; Theatrical Cut, Director’s Cut, European Cut. Can I have it stacked under 1 Army of Darkness ‘stack’, and then have it ask me which cut I want to watch?
I found this thread from 3 years ago, but wondered if there was any update to this or if it’s still the same old way how to do it. Right now, I manually split them and give them a separate name, albeit it’d be nicer/cleaner to have it under a single stack. Question about Local Extras with multiple versions of a film - #4 by piskieee
When adding extras, how come are some extras added both to the movie you have them for, and also to the main library list?
For instance, I have The Nightmare Before Christmas and added some Extras. One of the Extras is called ‘Sing Along’ and was also added to the main library, despite being in an extras folder (under a movie that I do not have, also named Sing Along).
Plex supports different (quality) versions of the same video. This is not designed for different cuts / editions.
There’s a very popular feature suggestion with tons of ideas on how to handle this – though no confirmation if this will ever be implemented (or how).
#2 will depend on your file naming. Plex doesn’t deal with / support a general extras folder. With proper naming, the files should show up properly as extras of that particular movie. You’ll need to share the exact folder organization and file names for further feedback
I did follow that bottom link you sent, actually.
I have the movie directory, in which I have created a folder named ‘Featurettes’. In that folder, I have two files.
The Nightmare Before Christmas - Main movie in this folder
/volume1/Movies/1993/The Nightmare Before Christmas/The Nightmare Before Christmas.mkv
The Nightmare Before Christmas\Featurettes - has the featurettes in it
/volume1/Movies/1993/The Nightmare Before Christmas/Featurettes/Sing Along.mkv
/volume1/Movies/1993/The Nightmare Before Christmas/Featurettes/What’s This - Jack’s Haunted Mansion Holiday Tour.mkv
The “Sing Along” featurette somehow got added both as an extra, but also as the separate movie from 2013 called’ Sing Along" - which I obviously do not want.
I did want to try a Plex Dance, but the option for ‘clean bundles’ is not present anymore, as far as I can see.
Scan library. There should be a single Blade Runner movie that is displayed. Select “Split Apart”. Then go in and manually edit each title in the web player interface accordingly. I believe when you split it apart it creates the collection for you.
I currently already split them as well, and give them a name for their cut. I just wish it had an easier option where you can add a cut, it’ll ask what cut it is and offer either one of the cuts you have added.
