Having Plex Desktop operating from an External HDD plugged into a USB on your TV

I have all of my TV shows & movies etc on a portable external HDD and I would like to be able to plug it into any TV via the usb and run Plex desktop on that TV without a computer.
This would be great for anybody who wants to take their Plex with them and be able to view it where ever they have access to a usb TV

Thanks
Greg

How are you proposing to run Plex Desktop on an external usb plugged into a TV without the Desktop PC?

Plex is a server client software… so unless the external drive has a basic plex client or server contained within I don’t believe this is possible.

This is my question, to see how it could be done with only basic extra needed on the external hdd. I am not a programmer so what I am asking for my not be a possibility but that is why I have added it to “Feature Requests” to see if it can be done.
Thanks
Greg

It cannot.

No chance.

Plex uses a server-client model. Plex Media Server needs to be installed on a system that is able to run it (usually a computer, laptop or NAS-server), and serve the media to the Plex clients. USB Drives do not have the necessary processors and memory to let them run any kind of software; so it can not run Plex Media Server. A USB drive is just ‘storage’ and thats pretty much all it can do.

But if your media is on an external drive, there is a big change that a TV that supports USB drives will find that media on your drive, so you`ll still be able to watch it without Plex.

Thank You all for your comments etc that has answered my question.
