HD Homerun Software VS Plex Pass

Running latest versions of plex player & server.
Issue is plex live TV buffers constantly.
Running off NAS DS218+

I want to use plex pass DVR VS HD Hrun service however my issue is watching live tv off of most channels constantly pauses & buffer but i do not have the issue using HDHRUN. software. Running Plex server off synology DS218+. I have no issues streaming movies off plex but live TV pauses every 30 seconds to minute. HD HRUN software has no issue.

Attennae strength shows 100%

You don’t mention which Plex app/client you’re using for playback.

More than the likely the issue is that whichever app you’re using cannot playback mpeg2 video streams without transcoding and your NAS isn’t powerful enough to transcode fast enough.

The HDHomeRun app works because it was developed to play mpeg2 streams directly without any help from a “media server”.

It’s a Synology NAS DS218+ w/hardware encoding built in. Streaming movies is perfect. Any format. It is the DVR/live TV that buffers. DS218+ Is listed as compatible for this setup.

How do i contact a actual Plex tech?. Because after all the investment I see no reason to keep messing with this when HDhomerun works and for 35 bucks a year vs 9 a month. This is too much trouble to find a answer yet there has to be a simple answer.

And i did mention which client server and
player versions. They are the latest versions. all updated,

So you’re using the Web client on the Synology for media playback? Or the Plex Media Player? Or?

(Sorry, it’s just not clear to me how you’re trying to view Live TV)

Yes, it is compatible for primarily recording and possibly playback depending on the client platform/app… but again it really depends.

As far as i understand it is all running off the NAS plex media player? Is there is difference between web
client and the plex media player? It is my understanding the best way to get max performance is ti have a NAS that supports HW transcoding and run it all off the NAS. Another interesting point is it was working w/o buffering until I upgraded it to windows 10. from 7. So i added more memory but ddint help. . But then I noticed HDHRun didnt care. It ran smooth w/no buffering and pausing off either.

Ok…so i installed plex windows media player. live TV no longer buffers. ON THE COMPUTER. Butn on other devices like samsung smart tv app and Amazon it still buffers.

This is a much better player than the web client as you’ve seen.

Unfortunately, this is because those platforms don’t (currently) support mpeg2 playback directly so your NAS (which is probably underpowered for the job) can’t do a good job of transcoding to a compatible format for those devices.

I’m not up on NAS technology so you might want to post here:

https://forums.plex.tv/c/plex-media-server/nas-devices and include tags for your specific NAS model, and then ask if there are settings on the NAS and/or your client(s) (include the specific models of each and the actual app version, not just “latest”) that might help you get better performance.

Yeah…I pikced a NAS w/hardware transcoding support recommended on the plex site. It should work.

Well, since you didn’t do most of this:

ask if there are settings on the NAS and/or your client(s) (include the specific models of each and the actual app version , not just “latest”) that might help you get better performance.

good luck in getting the help you need.

I already explained what you mentioned here and in your new thread:

Plex live TV buffers constantly. […]the buffering makes it unwatchable. HD home run live TV isn’t buffering one bit. .

But apparently you are choosing to ignore everything I explained to you and asked that you do in order to get the help you need. You’re probably better off just using the HDHomeRun app.
