I recently replaced a 10TB HD with A 20TB, I copied all of the files, and everything worked fine. I later discovered that any new file wouldn’t play, the counter went to 30 sec. and stopped, nothing else is different. I also deleted the library and re scanned.
Adding some details about what kind of server and operating you’re using certainly helps.
Here is a way to do such a kind of operation on Windows without side effects:
- shut down Plex server or disable automatic and periodic library updates
- add the new hard drive
- copy the data, retaining all folder names and file names
- swap the drive letters of old and new hard drives Change a drive letter | Microsoft Learn
- remove old drive, start Plex server
Done this way, Plex won’t even notice that something has changed.
If the whole incident isn’t too long ago, you can restore a Plex database snapshot from before, then perform the above procedure.
