HDD Drives

Are there any HDD´s which PLEX don´t support?

Plex does not control any drives. As long as your operating system manages to slap a filesystem on them, you should be good.

Many Thanks @Orko !

Unless you are confusing “HDD” with “NAS”.
Plex can only run on certain NAS brands and models: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201373803-nas-compatibility-list/

Nein. Ich meine schon HDD. NAS meinte ich nicht. NAS-mäßig habe ich 3 NAS schon ausprobiert, aber immer wieder Probleme gehabt, deswegen schloss ich daraus, dass es eventuell an den Festplatten liegt.

No. I already mean HDD. I didn’t mean NAS. In terms of NAS, I’ve already tried 3 NAS, but I’ve always had problems, so I concluded that it might be the hard drives.

HDD: WD Red

Well, there are certainly HDDs which should not be used within a NAS. At least not if there is a kind of “drive array” in use.
All HDD models which use SMR (“shingled magnetic recording”) should be avoided.

A while back, there was a kind of scandal, where WD was silently introducing SMR into their “Red” models. Since then, you want to rather look carefully at what particular WD Red model you have. WD Addresses SMR Controversy With New Red Plus Hard Drives | Tom's Hardware

Extremely interesting @OttoKerner

I haven’t heard/noticed anything about it.

Thanks @OttoKerner

And WD is not the only manufacturer which has SMR drives. Look for the specs in any case.

Many NAS manufacturers do have compatibility lists, which list the drives they have confirmed to be working.
(The affected WD Red models were striked from the compatibility lists of Syno, IIRC)

What hard drives would you recommend? Can you even recommend one? @OttoKerner

I personally can’t. You are best advised to take a look at Backblaze Hard Drive Stats
