Hi, I’m a bit stumped here. I have 1.6TB of free space for Plex, and I tried testing the DVR Feature to see how much space I will need in the future. however on each and every occasion I have tried to record a show I get one of two error messages.
Cannot record airing in the past.
There was not enough free disk space to start the recording.
I have checked and there is 1.6TB of free space, so that’s not the issue, and I have checked the write permissions on the HDD and every folder has Custom Read & Write Access.
I don’t know where I’m going wrong, I have included screenshots of my issue.
With regards to the space requirements, it is probably the transcoder temp directory area that does not have adequate space - checks are done for both - the target location and the temporary transcode area
For the other error, would need server logs covering the time of recording and with debug logging not dusabled
Not enough space/permissions, can’t write to TV location.

Partially, for a Live TV & DVR recording Plex writes to two locations. Segment files sent from the tuner are written to the Transcoder directory, if you have left your “Transcoder temporary directory” setting blank then Plex will write to where the Plex data is stored. Concurrently it concatenates the segment files into the .grab file located in the TV/Movie directory you have set for the TV/Move libraries to become the finished recording that it moves to the final location.
First step would be to change the transcoder directory to somewhere on your 1.6TB drive and free up some space on the default or relocate the Plex data. Second is sorting out the permissions on the 1.6TB drive, I am not familiar with MacOS so I will leave that for someone else to answer.
