Occasionally, when trying to record a program, I get this error in the DVR schedule screen. System config/comments below. The only recommended fix I can find is to change the “Transcoder temporary directory”. I have changed it to my DVR folder, which did not help.
It seems to only occur when two shows are scheduled to record at the same time. Sometimes one of the two records, sometimes neither records. The error is always the same “There was not enough free disk space to start the recording”. The tuner is only used for the Plex DVR. We do not use plex to watch live tv.
Thoughts?
Plex server v. 1.18.5.2309 (current version as of this moment), running Ubuntu 19.10 desktop
Tuner is HD Homerun w/2 tuners
Hard drive folder (where the DVR records) shows 8.8TB free
I had this problem when using ram as my transcode path. Turns out I needed more than 32 gig for 3.5 hour game. I set it to ssd and all was well. Hopefully this helps.
PLEX guys. I’ve attached my logs to this message. I’ve also added a screenshot of the DVR scheduling screen that shows that when two shows are scheduled to record at the same time, one of them doesn’t record. I recently added a number of new shows to record, so I can’t say how far this goes back. But, it is consistent for the last month or a little more. It has yet to record two shows when they are scheduled to start at the same time. The error is always the same.
Live TV & DVR uses the Transcoder temporary directory, you have yours set to /tmp which is a tmpfs filesystem aka 1/2 available ram. Till you start using 1.18.7 the DVR will use about 10 GB per hour per recording. For Live TV to work reliably it should be pointing to a real filesystem that Plex has Read+Write+Execute.
The pathing is also wrong for the storage location the forward slash instead of backslash.

Ahh…good catch on the backslash. I fixed the path with forward slashes. The interface didn’t catch that, but as a long time linux user, I should have known better.
